You may be right about it being fake, but you could not be more annoying if you tried.
If they are wrong, and that mini appears, they will be hounded down and harassed continuously. I remember a lot of crap predictors and naysayers with the iPT this summer... people saying Mac would NEVER EVER allow VOIP or have a SPEAKER on the iPT...people like...

Do you seriously think people who were looking at a mac pro would get a mini just because of its extra ports?

That, and because the Mini is SLOWER. It's a great sales point.

I hope it's fake

Surely, to follow up on a the Mac mini, Apple would want to make it significantly smaller. I sure hope the picture and video are fake as I would love to see the new mini not come with a DVD (reuse the MacBook Air external Superdrive) and be about half the size of the original mini. Put about 10-20GB of internal flash soldered to the motherboard as a boot drive and let me stack USB, Firewire, or eSATA drives on it (with matching external enclosures) and I'll be ecstatic.

Seriously??

Smaller??? Just how small do you want a "mini" to be? and to do that by removing the DVD would be the death of it... try talking a switcher into a new Mac mini let alone me buying one of your new models..pretty sure you'd be the only ecstatic one ;)

I'm not convinced it's absurd if this is their low cost of entry switcher machine. BYOKDM doesn't work if your current display won't plug into the thing.

Firewire is not absurd for a desktop either.

I mentioned this when the picture was first released and people still seem to be confused.

1. There are adapters for mini DisplayPort. I have one. That's how I manage to hook up my old external monitor to my 2008 MBP. If it had mini DisplayPort AND regular DVI, I might be more inclined to buy this, but why on earth would you put two different video outs on the back when NEITHER of them hook up to monitors without an adapter? When was the last time you used a monitor that was NATIVELY mini-DVI? If you need an adapter either way, what's the point of having two different video outs? I would have been WAY more inclined to believe this was real if it had 2 mini DisplayPorts.

2. I retract my thoughts about Firewire 800. I didn't know that the iMacs had FW800. I thought they only had 400 and that Apple used that strictly as a Pro deal.

I hope it is real just to contradict the overzealous posters who know for a fact that is fake. You know who you are. You may be right about it being fake, but you could not be more annoying if you tried.

I sure hope so. There are way too many people here who think they know everything that Apple would ever even consider doing. When in reality they are just speculating like everyone else.

I have no problem with having the opinion of it being real or fake, and there is no problem with supporting your claim. But way too many people on this forum speak like their opinions are fact and they all tend to talk down to others that don't share their opinions.

Seriously? I hope they don't do that. What would the point be? Reasonably small is great, quiet is VERY important, but powerful is the MOST important factor, and you won't get that by reducing the footprint. It needs to be at least as powerful as the Macbook, and if I had my wish, a BTO that would be as or more powerful than a Macbook pro. :D

How about a combination of "real" and "fake," then?

Really fake.

:D

Hahahah No?

This piece of **** looks like the same old model with silver trim. Apple would never update a product and make such minor exterior changes. I say its fake. The dude who made the video / posted the picture must be good at paining.

Why would it need silver trim? You do know that the current Mini has aluminum sides already (except for a cutout in the back where all of the ports connect), right? The video looks EXACTLY like the current Mini except for the port configuration, which is what you would expect from a prototype unit. No need to give away what the final look will be until the last minute. That way the cloners won't have their knockoffs out the same day as the real ones. I would guess that IF this was made by Apple, it has their traditional red prototype mainboard in it and that's why the video won't show the insides.

Well if they can fake the moon landing, then they can fake this
Its a government conspiracy i tells ya

I never said it wouldn't have a speaker, since it already had a speaker. I said it'd never have a microphone and a camera.

AMEN. Someone definitely gets it.

You were screaming and tantruming that Apple would NEVER enable VOIP on the iPT.... days later you disappeared from the boards for a while.

Throwing my hat into the ring, it's a fake, sorta. It's prototype that won't see the light of day, that said, clearly a non-working one at that considering it's not plugged in. So it's real in some senses that it was made, most likely by Apple at that, but fake in that it won't work and it's not how the next gen Mac Mini will actually look and potentially will either have or lack some of the features seen in the video.

Hope that clears things up.

Another AMEN on that one, I have a good idea who your talking about too

i think thats really interesting :p

what is ? and stop spamming the board please

You were screaming and tantruming that Apple would NEVER enable VOIP on the iPT.... days later you disappeared from the boards for a while.

Considering I am on these boards everyday I never disappear. aaaand When the app store was introduced Apple said they wouldn't block voip apps, so I am sure I wouldn't have said that. Care to dig up a post where I did? Or care to point out the date of my absence from the forums?

Why are people getting so emotionally invested in this rumor? Nobody here is 100% sure if it's real or fake, but it stands to reason (given the history of Mac rumors and the way Apple does things) that it's not really the next Mac Mini we're seeing. And the video only proves that it's a real object. That's not enough to convince me it's the next Mini.

I'm starting to wonder if some of the people behind this hoax are visiting these boards trying to sway opinions.

Interesting , can you elaborate please ? I'm not sure I see the point or how they could but am curious none the less :).

thanks

This is so obvious I'm not sure I should even post it, but the point of having two video outputs is to support dual-head configurations.

Duh?

And making them different port types is convenient for folks who might have mini-DVI to full size DVI adapters already. I know I have one and so do many others here i suspect.
