At this moment I have a MBP 16” (2019) i7 2,6Ghz with 8Gb RAM.
The main reason I’m not sure to upgrade is the screensize and speed in comparison with the M2… anyone who can elaborate on my dilemma?

I really love my wife’s 16 Gb Ram / 512 Gb SSD / Space Gray M2 Air

What i would do differently:

- bigger SSD (1 TB min.)
- 512 gb is fine for OS + some light stuff on internal drive
- 256 gb it’s criminal in 2022 (we have phones with this much storage)
- 1 TB+ ideal for bigger “in progress” libraries on internal drive or some stored media for on-the-go consumption (overkill for anything else)

What i would not change:

- 16 GB ram - i think it’s the sweet spot. For Photography i’m hitting around 12 Gb with Lightroom and Photoshop.

8c GPU - i think it’s enough for what edits i do on-the-go , absolutely enough for office stuff.

What i would love:

- 1 more TB port on the other side … that’s it. I don’t mind plugging a dongle in the rare situations when i need HDMI. SD card slot is no-use for me since i am shooting on CF Express (so external reader anyway).

Other than that:

- perfect carry size
- great battery life
- lightweight and thin
- dead silent
- plenty of power for my use case on the go
- it’s really a joy :)

If it was able to handle 2 monitor I most likely would have switched to this instead of the 14" MacBook Pro, but that is a deal breaker for me.

It is definitely more expensive than the prior generation, but it looks great.

Couldnt agree more with the review. I bought it to replace my iPad and for some light work on the go. But had some hope to get more done than that, and therefore ordered the maxed out version. And wow did it surpass my expectations!!! Now Im doing almost all my work on it and it really flies! Some heavy lifting like C4D or After Effect projects Im still doing on my stationary machine tho. I swapped the Midnight MBA for the obvious reasons and got the Starlight color. And I so very happy with that color! It looks absolutely stellar to me! The silver with just a tad of gold is so fresh and future.

Writing deserves to be more than just a lost art.
At least post the script as an accompanying article, like AI does. I mean, not all of us are in an environment where watching tech videos is appropriate, and I don't really want to have to put my headphones on just for this. Plus, I can read an article a fraction of the time it takes to sit through a video ... 😐

I think when you start upgrading the MBA RAM and SSD the base MBP M1 Pro 14" makes a lot more sense ... especially in the EU.

For more 250 euros and just a tad thicker device, nevertheless as conformably portable, you get way better everything else. If you edit videos and photos, the Mini LED display plays in another league.

I'm tossing up between a M2 MacBook Air (16GB / 1TB) or the base 14inch MacBook Pro with 1TB storage. I mostly use my Mac for day to day as mentioned in the review however I want the option to install parallels with windows for PC games. I'm not a serious gamer however I prefer games like Age of Empires etc. Ive seen Max tech review on M2 Air with parallels & he says it's faster than Windows. Has anyone tried using Parallels for games on the M2 or Pro and what has been your experience.

I'll wait for the 512 GB base model. I'm confident the next iteration will have more storage. 256 GB SSD is quite embarrassing to be honest. Otherwise it's a great successor to the M1 MBA, which I'm currently using.

I have an MBP 14" and played a bit with MBA M2. At those specs wouldn't trade one for the other for multiple reasons:

- Way Faster, literally.
- Way better display.
- Way better port options.
- Audibly better speakers ... that I appreciate while I'm in the couch listening to Macbook Rumor videos.

- Drawbacks in comparison ... don't see any of relevance.

Near perfect laptop for me. Give me the same, I mean the same thing yet slightly thiner and would be perfect. Not possible? ... never mind what I said.

Seems like a great machine to me, unless you purchased one in midnight then its the worst thing humanity has ever created apparently

My wife has the base model M2 MBA but I upgraded to the dual USB C charger for her. I have the 16” MBP M1 Pro Max, and I am jealous of hers. We are traveling this weekend, and she has it made while I have to carry double the weight. I don’t even use the extra ports. The only thing I like better is the size and quality of the display. Which makes me wonder, like Apple is upgrading the size of the iPhone 14 to a Max, when will they have the MBA Max coming in at 15” but still be as thin and nearly as lightweight as the MBA???

Weight and thickness are both drawbacks for sure.

My configuration is the M2 with 24GB RAM and a two TB hard drive. Ditto on everything you reported. It's fast, extremely long battery life, excellent monitor, keyboard great, and lightweight. As you reported about speakers. They're not as good as my five year old MacBook Pro.
I feel like it should be 32GB of RAM for that price upgrade. I don’t really understand the 32GB unless it’s due to the 14” MBP being too similar??? But for people who want lightweight and thin, the MBA is it!

Ok :)

PS: I said any of relevance considering. Everyone with an M1 Pro or Mac I've read "drooling" over the MBA with upgrades come from a 16" machine ... But hey. Why they did not went for the the 14" instead of the 16" back then ... don't know. Maybe regret is playing the mind a bit ... no? God forbid us buying a model launched last year.

@Dan Barbera If/When the 15 inch version comes out which one would you pick, that or the 16 in macbook pro?
(If the usage matters I do programming with my device - as hobby)

Your right, but for every day tasks like opening applications, web pages etc, the M2 in the Air has been shown to be faster, which makes sense as it has faster single core performance.

“For me, the main flaw is not having the two USB-C ports on opposite sides.”

I don’t think they are going to give us this, to keep space between the MBP being where you for lots of ports, but yes, I’d love that so much.

“I have the exact config as the "slightly modified version" and yes the finger prints are annoying. I just bought a clear hard case and I am fine.”

I’m trying out a clear hard case too, and I think I like it even better with the clear glossiness…and being able to ignore the fingerprints is nice!
