that's exactly what i mean. 120 Hz is just smoother on the Samsung, always has been.

Do we know why it's better? Is it down to the OS not creating enough frames to match the 120Hz on iOS or are Samsung keeping the best panels for themselves?

Apple really do need to up their game on camera, the zoom options have been lacking for a while now.

To me Colours matters a lot more than zoom, number of pixels and various features. I prefer the iPhones colours above the Samsung.

I had a Samsung S23 Ultra with my iPhone 14 Pro for a week and sold my iPhone.

Don't need the "You'll be back" responses, because I probably will when Apple build a better phone than the competition. I have had many Apple, Samsung and Pixel phones so moving to a different maker and multiple platforms holds no fears for me.

I tried both the Ultra and S23(+) in store. I’m disgusted by their design. S23(+) felt like holding a phone with sharp edges, literally. Very uncomfortable in hand. Not to mention the Ultra felt like a gigantic brick with flat edges. You can literally use it to build your roof.

Not saying you are wrong, just trying to understand.

I’m sitting here holding a 13 ProMax and S23 Ultra.
They are both “bricks”.
The iPhone edges are flatter and sharper - less comfortable in hand.
The iPhone weighs 6 grams heavier

I am totally not seeing your point unless you are also claiming the iPhone has a disgusting design.
Can you clarify your statement?

Not really digging the squared off look of the S23, but then the 14 is too rounded. Would love to see something in between. Periscope camera/zoom for the win though.

I get jealous every time my brother sends me a pic from his galaxy. I really like apple but Samsung got them beat with camera zoom.

Well most of that is digital zoom as evidenced by the total lack of detail and extensive processing.

Neat that optical can get you far closer on the Samsung, but the digital cropping looks quite terrible.

Skipped the 14 ProMax (no SIM tray) but did get the S23U.
Comparing it to my current 13 ProMax, the S23U eclipses it in pretty much any area I have tried.
Pretty close to matching in battery too.

I feel the same. They might have gone a bridge too far forcing the removal of the SIM tray. In US only even, just as an extra insult.

If I wasn’t already heavily invested in Apple’s ecosystem, id seriously consider switching to android/Samsung. If they could make a Samsung running iOS, I’d get one in a heartbeat. But, that’s not gonna happen.

I even like the LOOKS of the Samsung over iPhone.
I find looks to be of little consequence once put into decent case. However, if Samsung were able to create a series of apps that worked well together on a Mac such as mail, messenging, calendar and notifications, they might take a bigger slice of Apple's phone market. Apple isn't going to let that happen.

Yes I am a fan from experience with Samsung phones and yes I like the Apple eco system enough now to have returned. Apple's eco system, easy Airpod use and for some the video are notable features. Samsung has real customization, massive Android world to tap into, superior audio options, and photo potential.

I'll upgrade when Apple finally introduces optical zoom worthy of this decade. If their low-light performance was exceptional due to maintaining decent optics I might give them a pass, but they're pretty much par for the flagship market in that respect, leaving no real excuse for limiting focal length like they have.

An excellent comparison between the two industry-leading smartphones. However, iPhone is King! iPhone Forever! 💫

Some days I do wish I could do this with my iPhone.. One day...

Gawd, that is a gawd awful fake. I moon in the phone photo moved at the end of the video.😂😂

Don't get me started on the over the top image stabilization fully zoomed in. We're talking 10x better than the best optical stabilization the best Canon L or Nikkor lenses.😲

I've taken hundreds of moon shots. Forget about filling the screen without a tripod. I've had to zoom out, re-center the moon, zoom back in numerous times because of the slightest movement locking down the tripod.

Some cameras include stabilization within the camera body and tend to often fair better than what is found in lenses. I have taken more than reasonable moon shots with telephoto using a 35 mm film camera on a tripod. Anyone knows that shake is the enemy of both telephoto and certain types of long exposures. My two methods were simple - sandbag or suspend my camera bag (heavy) between the tripod legs. I think phones do an amazing job given how tiny the optics are and yield presentable images.

The guy's hand movement is enough to knock the moon out of the shot completely, unless...😲 That explains a lot. The phone isn't zoomed in, it's sampling cropping from different parts of the 200mp sensor. That explains the crosshair Picture in Picture in the corner.

I bet you do the hat trick* on long exposures right?

*The hat trick, for non-photographers, is where we cover the lense with a hat. Set the long exposure shot, remove the hat. It's to prevent the subtile shake/movement from pressing the shutter button.

I am no photographer and have quite an old shakey hand, I must admit that I was with you and thought that there must have been some trickery (fake) involved. I got my S23 Ultra and sat in my chair took photos of everyday objects (or part of) in 100 magnification. Here is what I found, looking at the screen when composing and taking the picture, it seemed very grainy, but, the screen seems to completely stop just after one touches the button, the photo didn't look bad at all. The trickery is in the phone. I will try and get some shots of the moon when it is out (normally just cloud in Northern England).

The first shot is at X3 of the crystal candle holder, the second is at x100

Actually, I looked outside and saw the moon. Standing at the doorway, holding the phone out with a very shaky hand, I got this. I am sure that if I tried harder and took a little bit more care, it would come out better. I am sure that those with a knowledge of photography like those members above, would absolutely smash fabulous photos with it.

Looks great. Apple cameras, at this point, don't even come close to that. It really shines at sporting events and the zoom.

Nope, someone else replied to me that nobody uses zoom.

Don’t worry, when Apple does it, it will be zoom done right. The cringe on these forums sometimes…

I wouldn't bet on it. I am assuming Samsung's zoom is really cropping portions of the sensor, using sophisticated AI to process out the motion blur. It is impossible to get a clear picture at crazy high zoom without a tripod. One handed? And a tiny sensor? That's low-key AI doing some heavy lifting. Apple's AI has been a running joke for years.

The flaw in my previous post is that I assumed it the in image filled the entire sensor.

Mirror up on SLR type cameras and best yet using a lense leaf shutter. If the exposure was 1-4 seconds, then yes, better to cover the lens and count off. Longer exposures really don't get so impacted by shutter vibration (shutter plane). Amusing to see someone familiar with some craft techniques of yore here.
