Why do we even need that?
What's all this multitasking craze?
If there's one thing that iPad does well is to let you focus and enjoy what you're doing, without any clutter around and behind it.
That's the beauty of it.
Why on earth would you want to create a stressful experience on a device meant to be enjoyed?
It's really sad.

I know I'm going to get blasted for this, but my girlfriend switched from iPad to Surface simply because of the multitasking feature. She needs two apps running at once to be able to do her job. The Surface provides that solution for her.

I kinda agree.

Nothing makes for a great multitasking video quite like showing only one app running.

What's really sad is your selfishness. Look outside... worlds not revolving around you.

Crazy monotasking fanatics!

I like the way how Apple implemented that. Surely more user friendly than other competitor. :D

That video was utter garbage. This is how the Note 3 does it. You don't need 2 fingers to resize either. The separator line has a little control ball that you can pull for resizing, switching and closing. And because I have a custom Rom I can add any app within multiscreen.
Not one iDevice has over 1 gig of Ram so I could only imagine what the performance would be like. Before I got the Note 3 I had an iPhone 5s and even that was crashing with memory errors. I don't know why Apple did not go with at least 2gig's of Ram in their flagship devices last year.

Aren't developers in risk of having their Dev-Account cancelled for showing this type of information directly from Apple beta-software?

I'd love to see Vertical as well as Horizontal. One thing I'm finding issue with in Windows 8.1 Modern especially on a horizontal screen is that when you stack up Apps Left to Right (most of which are built to be displayed horizontal) they get squished funny.

If you could instead stack apps Up and Down it would make better use of that space.

Ideally I'd prefer a Quad-Split with 4 Apps tiled to the corners so they fit/scale better.

The other option would be to use built in-support for Apps being in Landscape and Portrait mode.

If you stack them Left to Right, while the table is in Landscape (horizontal) have the Apps switch to Portrait (vertical) mode to better utilize the reduced screen space.

Maybe even allow the user to define which orientation the App should be running in while its on a Multi-task screen at the time of Launch or with gestures later.

Uhh... they had the whole "multiple apps" on one screen before Apple, so I don't understand what you're getting at.

thats why I said Microsoft because they had it and now Apple will. Remember the Microsoft ads that bashed the iPad for not having multitasking?

I hope this isn't how Apple does multitasking... because this is exactly how it's done on Windows 8 Metro apps and everyone thinks that sucks already.

Choice. Believe it or not, some people like having it.
Multitasking is not mandatory. Again, it's a choice.
What is this stressful experience you speak of?
If multitasking on a tablet is stressful then I don't think the word 'stressful' means what you think it does.
Did I mention it's an optional choice?

Sad is thinking because you can see the usefulness of something it shouldn't be.

/getting off your lawn;)

I would think that if one didn't like to use multitasking they could continue to do things the old way, no? What's the big deal? Or am I missing something here? Where's Renzatic when you need him? I think they sent him to the South Pole or something this time. :D

I would hope that we would get the ability for 3 apps, say 1/2, 1/4, 1/4.

How about… No.

I'm already quite fond of the way the iPad handles task-switching or multi-tasking.

I like using the four-finger swipe to switch between full screen apps. It's fast and simple.

But the idea of having two apps side-by-side in super-skinny narrow columns doesn't appeal to me at all.

YMMV

But if the iPad was 20" and the iPhone 19"…

Really, who says that?

SeaFox?

Still don't know what I might use that for. Anyone got examples/workflows that demonstrates this side-by-side usefulness?
