i recieved this yesterday from o2

Hello Dewi,

Thanks for emailing us about upgrading to the new iPhone 3G.

You don't have to wait until the end of your existing contract to upgrade to the new iPhone 3G. All you'll need to do is agree to a new 18-month minimum term contract. You don't need to go through the credit check again while upgrading your account.

To opt in for an early upgrade, please check our new tariffs offered with the iPhone 3G on the following link:

http://www.o2.co.uk/iphone/paymonthly

This special early upgrade offer is only available online at o2.co.uk anytime from 11th July 2008 until 11th October 2008.

You can then register your interests by clicking on the link given below:

http://iphone.o2.co.uk/registeryourinterest/

After you've registered your interests, we'll contact you in early July to tell you about the new 3G iPhone.

I hope you find this information useful and many thanks for your keen interest in the iPhone 3G.

I think this only applies to current iPhone users in a contract with o2. Not other contracts with o2, unless it is simplicity.

yes i know, but no credit checks!!! supposedly.....

That would speed things up a great deal

I would have thought this was known from the start, providing you were in a current contract with o2. Why would you need a credit check to continue and extend a contract with the same phone company? You are known by the company, and they know you pay your bills each month. Quick and easy for existing customers (in theory).:)

I wish they'd just get on and release the details. How much longer can they take to sort this out? Especially considering that the head honchos at o2 would have known this was coming. I know Apple like their build ups but you'd expect something a mere week before release!

Still, VIP pass or not, I can hardly see queues around the block in sleepy Surrey...

Especially with 2 CPWs, 2 O2 Shops and an Apple Store in Kingston alone ... there should be no problems getting your hands on an iPhone in Surrey!

There never were credit checks for existing O2 customers to buy an iPhone. No credit check was done during the activation process on the original phone if you were already with O2 on contract either.

True! When I got my current one I went into CPW in Kingston and asked if they had any, expecting the answer 'no chance', he looked at me like I was mad and said 'of course we've got one.'

Goodo then :D
