Indeed. Malware and Viruses are two very different types of security exploits with different ways that they infect a users computers. Flashback required trickery to directly install something other than what a user wanted. However it required direct user intervention by providing authentication.
A virus is far more complex and at the very least would not require such user interaction outside of clicking something on the web or similar.
Malware and Viruses are very different things and as GGJstudios tirelessly states, there are no OSX viruses in the wild. Malware is a different story and can be prevented by practicing safe computing measures (like not downloading anything without knowing what it is and determining if it comes from a legit source, or not installing flash from anywhere but Adobe, or not running pirated software, etc.).
