There are no viruses, just trojans. Avoid porn and other suspicious sites and keep an eye on what you download.

OSX just isn't wide spread enough for programmers to waste time writing a virus for. Not the same as OSX being invulnerable.

LOL ok.

Do robbers pass up a gold brick in an uninhabited house because fort knox is right up the street? If it was that EZ it would've been done.

What utter crap. Exactly how do you get trojans from porn?

P.S. If this is something your mom has been telling you then never mind... she's right.

Easy. You visit a porn site, and it claims to offer movies of some tempting porn star... you click to play the movie and it says "Oops, you don't have the latest codec version...click here to download the installer." You execute the installer, and suddenly you've installed not a video codec, but a trojan.

This scenario isn't limited to porn. It happens everywhere. Why don't you just tell people to avoid the internet entirely?

The point is not to install downloads that you are not sure of. If you download firefox from the mozilla site, you're ok, but if you download xxx from a site and it asks for your admin password, you are foolish to give it.

No OS can protect from a totally clueless user.

I know it can happen in any site, but usually when people search for videos, they use YouTube or other safe site, but when they are looking for Paris Hilton's free sex tape and founds it, but oops, you need the latest codec to view it -> download -> cry. It's just hard for someone to control their sexual desire, otherwise, there wouldn't be rapers.

You're right. I'd tell people to avoid downloading things from sources they don't trust.

If you visit a trusted site, like Apple, Microsoft, Adobe, Sourceforge, and it asks you to download something, chances are it's safe. Thousands of people are downloading these files, and even if there was a trojan embedded in an installer (it has happened), there would be enough of an uproar that it would be quickly fixed.

If you visit a warez site looking for the latest pirated software or serial number crack, or porn sites, your chances of downloading something harmful are considerably higher. Half the time the websites in question are complicit, especially if the trojan does something like redirects all your web traffic to their site so they can collect the ad revenue. They're also relying on your being too embarrassed to report stuff like that happening to you.

But honestly, there are a few safer porn sites.

I won't link them, but I'm sure a lot of people know about them. They're like Youtube, and are at least free, and for now, trojan free, at least one guy I finally got to stop googling porn has yet to destroy his desktop after my friend and I found the damn sites for him. Porn seems to be the number one hazard for trojans, I had to fix that desktop daily it seemed.

Google is the worst place to look for porn, especially celebrity porn. There are many safe porn sites as well which you can trust. Best option is to get a girlfriend and get your satisfaction that way ;)
