the AirPods Pro 2 with lightning charging also has Spatial Audio.
The USBC version is said to have "Immersive Audio". ugg i am not looking forward to having to buy another set of airpods (these would be my 17th pair since 1.0), but i still have a year of AppleCare+ on mine.

My question is if the USBC version does this Immersive Audio so well, that it's imperative to get them for AVP.
I don’t think it makes a noticeable difference, at least for me. Supposedly my audio is lossless but I don’t notice it. However if you are a “lossless audio listener” then perhaps you’d notice. As long as you have Spatial Audio set up correctly, you should be fine. The speakers built into the AVP are amazing just by themselves. 👍🏻

It’s interesting to think about what Apple products this might cannabalize a bit. Definitely not the iPhone (yet), which goes everywhere in your pocket. If this reaches the size of sunglasses, however…. you still need a Mac for the productivity features, extending the laptop screen, etc. Maybe the iPad would hurt the most, as many use it for entertainment and light productivity, and this can also do that, and run all the iPad apps?

I had a demo at my local store, this thing really wow me , it’s the most amazing piece of tech I ever try in my life yet, this is the most exciting thing apple ever released yet, it’s like you have the IPhone, Mac, IPad, AirPod, apple TV and more in one piece of tech, it might not be for the mass public yet, it’s still not perfect, it’s a first generation product, it might feel weird to use in public but if you really into tech, love apple products and don’t mind dumping thousands of dollars on it, trust me you will love it.
Will definitely get one myself, this is truly the feature.

Found one of Tim’s burner accounts!

I've heard that it is a great place to go through your photos, too. The images are large and beautiful. I guess even static 2D images can benefit from those displays.
that would/could be one of my use cases, but, my photos (~100k) are managed in Lightroom on my Mac ... I plan to bring this up during my demo tomorrow

Can someone (i.e. me) who is functionally blind in one eye, and has 20/20 corrected vision in the good eye experience any or all the features offered by Apple Vision Pro? I did a search a few years ago (before Apple Vision Pro was public knowledge) and there were some studies done with other makes/brands of headsets that demonstrated they were able to accommodate people blind in one eye, to a certain extent.
This is quite possible. I didn't pre-order because I have a hard contact lens on my right eye (which is supposedly a no-no) and a "mostly" repaired left eye after two retinal detachments and a cataract replacement. So my eyes don't work together like they used to.

So I went in for a demo today and it worked surprisingly well. I had to lie on the appointment saying that I didn't have hard contacts...and really, it worked as well as I could have hoped.

So...I'll be ordering mine. I'm still not sure how much I'll use it...but I'm intrigued by the potential. I'm counting on a few developers to take it to the next level.

But I would definitely schedule a demo if you can. Otherwise, use the 14-day return window.

Thanks for the great info! The nearest Apple Store to me is in Boulder, CO which is only an hour south of where I live, so I will schedule a demo. I usually wear glasses for the vision in my good right eye, but I also have a soft contact lens I can wear if I choose.

I think in 3 to 4 years time this device will truly be remarkable and they would likely split it into Pro and Regular offerings, just like with the rest of the device categories. By then I think it will be much better for wearing (more comfortable and less strain on head), and available at a much better price point, for most consumers. I mean it may become so commonplace that it's just like an iPhone... it's just there.. and it becomes a normal.

At that point it will be like what the iPad Air 2 (or even iPad Pro 2018) was compared to the first gen iPad.

In the meantime enjoy the rest of Apples devices, and other tech offerings available from other companies. don't worry about FOMO.... we are all missing out on something or the other 😂
You mean, in 3 to 4 years THE NEXT iteration of this device will be remarkable

I just want to know why it is not for me.

"I just want to know why it is not for me."
I can give you 3,500 reasons why it's not for me.
That’s one good reason, Also can see some long term health effects being another. The weight of it if using it a lot can’t be great for your neck, shoulders and back. I’m not an optometrist but myopia could be another thing that ends up being an issue as these screens are so close to your face. Not sure if there’s a way to offset those effects with these devices

Make an appointment for a demo at the Apple Store. I went on Saturday and had a 30 minute session using it. I was blown away by the visual and audio quality, and despite what some others have said, the main single band was pretty comfortable for me. But I did make it pretty tight on my forehead, which reduced any greater strain that would have been felt with a looser strap. And I did have a line on my forhead when I took it off at the end of the session.

But - to your question - you can certainly ask Apple, but I think you should experience it and see whether you like it or not.

Despite the level of technology and the complexity of the build, I didn’t expect this to be as smooth and flawless as it was.

The only thing holding me back from getting one is that I just don’t want to spend this much on a first-gen product. I also think I would probably mostly use it for entertainment, at least at first. I don’t know if I could handle wearing it for a whole work day — despite the appeal of a huge virtual monitor.
I did look at several instances of text, and documents on the virtual screen, and they were very sharp and legible. Unlike what some other ‘experts’ predicted based on their knowledge of conventional displays.

I think that the truth is very few people can actually hear the difference between lossless and a good quality lossy file at a decent bit rate—and then that will still depend to some degree upon the mastering of the music. I’ve taken the ‘golden ears’ test a few times, and while technically, I can tell around 70% of the time (so slightly better than randomly!), the difference is really slight with any kind of headphone (if that’s what you’re using), and it might be a matter of taste whether you prefer the lossy or lossless version. We’re used to hearing lossy audio.

Two things i hope / would like.

1. Widgets. Even just simple ones like a clock i could have off to one side
2. Hopefully in a future software update, but mirroring of iphone & ipad similar to how it does with Mac’s

Does it show reminders / notifications?

Does it present the Home Screen at a standard distance? Can you measure that distance?
(I'm guessing that will be the focal distance I should use to get the prescription I'd want to use with it)

All you need to know? It’s expensive. It’ll be several years before it’s slightly less expensive, and less cumbersome.

Just watched the video and am annoyed that MR has done EXACTLY the same as nearly everyone else bar one and that is not talk in detail about issues of FOV and glare which VP owners have been reporting about either being a few hours after trying to out or a day later and then making posts in MR pointing out the issues of the VP.

So my question is, when was this video made because VP owners and potential buyers of the VP have been talking about and asking questions about FOV and glare a few hours after it was officially released but yet Dan does not talk about anything on the topic of FOV and glare, why?

I was worried about the FOV and having used HMDs for a while: iGlasses 3D (look it up, from early 2000's), Oculus Dev kit, Samsung Odyssey+, Oculus2 and currently own HP Reverb G2. The Vision Pro FOV is fine if you're using the 21 seal. If you remove the light seal completely, the experience is incredible! It feels like you're wearing glasses when you can see all of peripheral view around you. But the eye tracking doesn't work very well without the seal.

What's killing me is the glare, light reflection. I can't get past it. This will most likely make me return it. When using all other headsets the primary use was gaming. The glare was there, I know it's there but I'm always interacting with the world and I ignore it. When watching a movie with Vision Pro, I can't ignore it. I'm focusing on the picture and the picture is stunning but there's glare. It feels like my glasses are dirty/foggy.

Incredible toy. But like my Reverb G2 that's sitting collecting dust waiting for the next HL:Alyx, I don't see myself utilizing it for productivity or even watching movies.

It will be interesting to watch this play out to be sure. All of the scifi use cases people keep throwing out as selling points have already been done. Virtual movie theater, virtual desktop, VR calls, AR interaction with real objects etc. The difference here is that Apple is going to throw everything it's got at making people believe they need and/or want one of these things. They're going to roll it out as if VR didn't exist before now. They're going to have this advertised literally everywhere all the time. Morning shows, influencers, news segments and other paid promotions just to start. I'm honestly curious to see if their vast influence and deep pockets will be able to sell a product to people who were never interested in VR in the past. My prediction is that it will easily sell the small initial run but eventually people will admit the thing just sits in the closet and only comes out to show friends. After that interest will decline and reality will set it. That reality will not be virtual unfortunately.

Apple's VP is not going to be another 'iphone' moment where the world stands in awe at what they have produced because VR headsets have been around for close to decade now and not one of them has grabbed the publics or business worlds attention. Many VP owners have already stated they own a number of other VR headsets and one of the common things you read/hear from them is the words 'My other VR headset can do that'. Apple has bigger financial pockets than all the other VR headset makers, Google with the Meta Quest possibly coming the closet with deep financial pockets but not even them has spent the same amount of money as Apple has in R&D and parts costs. Apart from producing much better optical than their competitors, Apple has not provided anything overwhelming different to that of all the other VR headsets out there. If there was something out there that was going to make the world stand up in awe of VR, it would have been found already in my opinion. The fact such a thing has not been found is why VR just trundles along slowly and quietly doing it's own thing.

I really had to laugh with your post!

This is exactly what people were saying when the rumour came out Apple was going to make a MP3-player.
"What??? But we already have them! Nothing new! What the heck do they want to improve on that? Hahaha, Apple is crazy! And look how expensive! Typically Apple! Well, not me, I will not buy it!" - the rest is history.

Now, the only difference is that the iPod as well as the iPhone are "nothing else" than a continuation of something everybody once had used, or was still using, and they "simply" made an improvement of that already existing experience.

So much different is the Apple Vision Pro, which, apart from some people who owned something similar before, which is now collecting dust in a locker or so, didn't have a kind of predecessor, but with dinosaur tech or so.
(I have the Sony Playstation Thing next to me in the original box on a shelve: didn't like it from day one, gave me headaches, and was basically throwing a bunch of euro's in a river).

The AVP is kind of new to most, although we all have been playing with screens, and inputs, and consuming lately movies and other stuff.

Personally, I think the sky is the limit, and only very few* do understand what a shockwave this will bring.
