This product is marketed to folks like me who have disposable income. However, folks who have the money like me to afford this are also money-wise and it’s a hard justification to buy something like this in this economy…. Especially given Apple’s history of bringing new products to the market, and then slashing the price a few generations in. If this has a strong trade-in value, then MAYBE I could see myself jumping on it. Perhaps trading in my iPad Pro as well towards the cost because I don’t see myself needing it if I had this.

That's the thing, this generation at least there isn't a compelling reason to spend $3500. You can get a Quest 3 for much less, albeit with lower resolution screens, but a hell of a lot more games and applications, just the SteamVR support is priceless. You can get a number of AR glasses with 100" screens for maybe $500 or less. Personally I'm really interested in the visor.com which gets you 4k OLED screens, blacked out sides for immersion/VR, MULTIPLE screens when using Mac/PC, 6 DOF, etc for $1k. I suppose if you want to stay inside of Apple's ecosystem, man but $3500 is still hard to swallow even for those of us who have that disposable cash.

The personas are definitely weird. Apple managed to avoid the cartoony look that made Meta's ridiculous, but these somewhat-realistic representations are neither funny-looking nor actually lifelike either, they're just ghostly and creepy.

It sounds like everybody is going to great lenghts to explain what the AVP is and isn't, yet it never falls in Apple's intended definition.

It's better than the Quest 3, but is not intended for VR gaming.

It's a pro/serious "spatial computing" device, yet it only seems to be made for consuming videos and pictures.

It's portable, but is heavy.

It's got a battery pack, but your cannot actually walk around (or at least shouldn't).

It should be used whenever you're seated, but it's so big and clunky you cannot easily bring it on a flight.

Right, it's a gen 1 product by all means, but let's see if Apple can actually make this work for someone.

I’m thinking EyeSight is likely going to be the next TouchBar.
The Vision Pro itself is the next touchbar - might be new and innovative, and liked by some people, but not something the mass market consumer asked for or wanted. If this thing lasts more than 1 or 2 generations, its going to be a low selling niche product.

I may be totally off base here but I always wondered if Apple allocated a lot of resources for the R&D of the AVP causing a decline in the quality of everything else- mainly software and Siri.

Now that this is hitting the market, suddenly we’re hearing rumors of iOS 18 being the biggest update yet and Siri getting marked improvements.

I completely agree. It's one of the worst features of the Apple Watch. That constant reminder and vibration on my wrist is horrific. It's because of this, they are all turned off. Imagine having that, quite literally, thrown into your face!!! Horrific!
You should really take control of notifications on all of your devices and don’t just let the default inundate you with interruptions and demands. For most of us, it should be possible to tune them down so that most notifications are muted or deferred with only specific channels or people allowed to actually interrupt you. I’ve been at people’s desk where every email that comes in pop up’s up a little notice on their screen. It’s very distracting and I’m not even sitting in front of that screen.

If you wanted to you could setup a focus mode for when you are wearing the AVP so that you aren’t interrupted.

That's precisely what I've done. The worst part of an Apple Watch is the haptic feedback. It literally gives me anxiety having this vibrating thing on my wrist. The only time I've allowed haptic feedback is for my morning silent alarm so it doesn't wake my wife (but I'm usually already awake before it goes off), and when I get a critical alert, for example on my ring alarm, or my CO or smoke sensors. Otherwise, it's all passive with no sounds enabled.

Those conniving sneaks! Can you be more specific?
Trace the thread back. Someone noticed the images of people wearing a Vision Pro show realistic looking eyes in all the Apple marketing material. In every review video posted, the eyes look like cartoons shown on a low-res screen.

It always is!

Gen 4 iPod was the best. It's the last one before they made the screen color, had a click-wheel, was Windows compatible, great battery life, great price.

Gen 4 iPod Nano was the best. It was the super colorful and super slim one, before they added a video camera for some reason.

Gen 4 iPad was a great buy. It was the first with the lightning connector.

Gen 4 Macbook Air was the first of the redesigned tappered look. This design lasted for close to a decade!

Gen 4 iPhone was the 4. Need I say more?

You can go on and on. Gen 4 seems to always be the sweet spot.
Apple watch 4, apple tv 4

The audacity! I see a class-action lawsuit in their future!!
I don't think you will get a class-action lawsuit out of this because no one is buying it specifically for the Eyesight feature. However, it doesn't speak well for Apple's honesty in marketing. Now that I have one, I can assure you that Eyesight is a fail and nothing like what Apple has in their marketing material. Here's reality vs. Apple marketing. It may not matter to you, but it is deception nonetheless.

Why is everyone ripping on the personas? How else can you be represented in a FaceTime call without a camera facing you? Even if there was a camera facing you, you still have this thing strapped to your face. What are we expecting here?
Now that I have one... the persona feature is good and well implemented. It is significantly better than the negative reviews indicate. Eyesight, on the other hand, is surprisingly worse than the negative reviews.

While that bottom image does look suspiciously realistic and is probably a mockup from before the feature was really working, I don’t know that is going on with that upper image but it looks nothing like other recent images of eyesight that I have seen from some of the early first impression reports. They look much more believable. That upper image looks like something was really messed up. I suspect that the eyesight feature is still barely out of beta at this point. Let’s see what it look like by end of the year to get a better idea of where things are going.

Great to know and my assumption was it wouldn’t be as terrible as everyone is saying, given what’s involved. It’s also still in beta. I pick mine up tomorrow so I’ll see for myself. Eyesight, I never really cared for or gave much thought.

I think you kinda spoke to your own point. You also have to realize, this deice went though many iterations soft and hardware, I wouldn't be surprised if that isn't a photoshopped image at all. But again, like you said — no one is buying these for this feature.
