You're right - Dashboard came from the old Desk Accessories back in the pre-System 7 days. Desk Accessories were miniature applications (much like Dashboard widgets) that you could summon at any time, do some work in them, then send them away again.
While technically true, Apple had not developed the idea until Konfabulator came along, at which point they developed an almost perfect clone and called Dashboard.

I did not know that... I do recall this being discussed extensively when Tiger came out but I think I missed most of it.

This world need more cooperation, not bashing everywhere, the narrow-minded culture established by SJ is unbelievable.

copy, copy, copy, apple fanboys should get some sense of real world and get facts straight. Its getting tiresome. Its not they are not living in a real world. Rather in SJ's wonderland.

I think your point is well argued, until the ad hominem attacks at the end. I think the entire gist of this thread is pretty light; I'm not sure any of the posts I've read have been angry or even all that serious. The fact that you got so worked up undermines your point about "not living in a real world."

Apple 'copied' this from Unix/Linux where they are "virtual desktops" which I prefer to Spaces...

When Apple made a big thing of Spaces my Linux using co-workers gave me grief for "Apple copying Linux" in much the same way the OP is talking about "Vista copying OS X!"...

I find it mildly amusing that so many Linux fans think there was nothing before Linux. The fact is, virtual desktops pre-date Linux, and OS X is based on versions of Unix that originated long before most of the Linux crowd was even born.

Btw, since OS X IS Unix, saying it copies something from Unix doesn't make whole lot of sense.

Edit:

Noticed something funny. My iPhone autocorrect changed "Linux" to "unix" :)
