Guys - a word of warning. Whilst I love my Macs and prefer Mac OS X over Windows any day - I remember reading some time ago that the final GUI for Longhorn aka Vista had not been finalised - it may be that this is not the final GUI....

...However if anyone knows any different, it would be nice to know. I for one would love this to be the final GUI - just because it is so ugly, and shows how useless Microsoft are when it comes to the beautification department!

Yeah, this isn't close to being the final design. Beta 2 is supposed to show what the final product will look like and Beta 2 isn't due until mid-December.

When I read it off of somewhere it said those reqs. plus the CPU had to be dual-core or dual cpu 8 GHz. That was optimum - recommended.

Bahahaha, nooblet, pcs arent even up to 8 GHZ yet, chances are you need at least a 2ghz proccesor which isnt that much to ask, i mean if you want to run a new OS you should at least have a decent proccesor. As for the graphics side, if you dont like the skins, then change them, if you dont like the new graphics options, turn them off or get a 3rd party app, im sure there will be lots of apps and custom skins for it. Now im preaching to the blind when i say this on a apple based forum and i'll probably get banned but i would never ever use a mac solely based on the fact that i cant play **** with a mac, and the amount of effort required to get a game to work on mac osx that isnt actually made for osx is extreme. I cant play HL2, i cant play various other games, why would i buy something that i cant play tons of games on and has less features than a pc. I mean seriously everyone comments on how crash free macs are yet last time i used a mac, over a year, it must have crashed at least once everytime i used it.

Also, video editing, whats the difference? I have firewire, i have adobe premiere, easy as pie, how is macs alternative any better?

Anyway chances are that macs market share isnt going to go up anytime soon so sucks to have a mac. Im just trying to point out that most users cant see anything really special about macs that would convience them to buy a $1000 computer when they could buy the same pc which runs like most games. im sooooo gonna get flamed for this, but im just speaking my mind

/insert cliched generic Windows Vista slagging off message/

its been done before. i hate Vista. im waiting for the windows forums im on to start posting about how great it is then show them how they've copied OSX. oh the niceness

No no, speak your mind, but I have to wonder...why are you browsing a mac forum? I won't jump to conclusion and say you're purposefully trolling the site, but if you pay close enough attention, you'll see that a lot of us own PCs, or have owned PCs or have had at least some experience with PCs. There are a few members who haven't touched a PC since Win95, but most of us here do use average PC boxes, whether it's for gaming, work, etc.

I speak for a lot of people who buy and use macs because *we* feel they are superior to PCs in many fields. For me, gaming is not that big of a deal. I don't know why people get so angry over the fact that Macs don't have a lot of games. Computers aren't just gaming boxes. I play Solaris with StellaOX...that's the extent of gaming for me. For me, macs are more secure, stable, easier to use and - being a filmmaker - find Final Cut Pro and similar programs to be superior to Adobe Premiere, Media 100 and pretty damn close to Avid (this is from personal experience NOT fanboyness).

If PCs work for you, great. But no one here is going to hear your pleas since we've already made up our own minds.

Will all 7 versions be as ugly? Or will the gaussian blur around the windows obscure the rest of the OS?

I'm surprised no one has responded to this.

The answer is: No.

The Aero interface along with "Glass" will only be available to (I believe) Home Premium and up. The Home Edition will have some undisclosed interface (undisclosed because who wants a screenshot of a crippled os) but I'm guessing it will probably be the same ugly interface from the early Longhorn betas (which was XP, only black.)

right on the dot for me, except that i'm not a filmmaker. i don't mind the lack of games, especially with next-gen consoles coming out, too.
