Those designers Apple has hired were all graduated from their student age. Plus students are more willing to challenge the existing vision than others.
That's a riot, do you understand the term "Rookie Mistake"? There's a reason why it exists.

We have a "Student" President challenging the "existing vision", how's that working out?

The problem with students? They don't know, what they don't know, that's the whole point of being a student, to learn; most student challenges end in failure, and that's how you learn.

Don't confuse being "willing" to challenge things with being "able" to challenge things.

Great response to a rejection and some cool ideas.

I happen to think 'downloaded music' is a critical tab, as WE DO NOT LIVE IN A WORLD WITH FREE, FAST INTERNET EVERYWHERE, but otherwise some great work.

(^ Bold above is for Apple, Google and other companies that push out products which don't work properly without fast internet - which is a reality in much of the world, still. Google are especially horrible at doing this.)

Great attitude though. I reckon that kid will go far!

Hopefully Apple will read this article (you know they're on MacRumors) and take some of his suggestions to heart. Offer the kid an internship!

Apple need to hire this guy. Why they passed him up is beyond me. It's not a perfect re-design but better than the convoluted mess we have.

Not really, I have many friends that can easily take an existing design and "make it better". Not saying it's easy, just saying it's doable.

The problem with iTunes / Music distribution via apps @ Apple goes much deeper.

A new approach is needed and better design in this wave of change is definitely needed.

Careful now - I suggest you read the full post on his blog. He's done a lot more than that, but the MacRumors article does a poor job of showing it all.

It's much more than a font size change...

Humm went through his article and please don't tell me this is anything significant...

OK all and all, but please this article isn't oversimplifying the process.

You wanna talk hard work? Create a new app that can really make a difference, then we'll see...

Apple not only needs to hire this guy, but they need to do what he has recommended. I too support the idea of having Music and Apple Music be two separate apps. Customer experience should be what Apple is about. If they do that the bottom line will take care of itself. Didn't Steve Jobs once say that or something like that?

Expertise isn't wanted these days. When long standing UX and GUI experts have criticized Apple's 2013 redesigns to zero effect (as in, Apple shows no interest in the criticisms), I don't see how minor changes to one app amongst an entire platform using a lousy GUI model (demanded by some obsessive leadership at Apple) are going to be all that impactful.

But more power to this person for exercising skills and (hopefully) learning in the process.
[doublepost=1494518593][/doublepost]Also: "sampler" is a music creation term. Maybe "taste test" or something similar, would be better. But then, Apple doesn't care about content creators, so why would they care about confusing terms with their end consumers when so few are content creators themselves.

I wouldn't be opposed to having 2 separate apps.

I have wanted to love iOS Apple Music and iTunes on MAC however It's just so hard! I was glad when the free Apple Music subscription expired so I could go back to SPOTIFY iOS and Desktop App. My only gripe about Spotify is they don't have an Apple TV app yet!

Lets see what comes at WWDC.... Good on this guy for putting his project out there...

Didn't the original Apple Music app changed colors based on the color of the cover art?

Yup then Apple decided to get rid of it, a bit of a disappointment to someone who put cover art on their playlists to make the music app look "nice"(theres no fixing that mess but it helped.)

iOS 4 Music app please?

I guess we will start seeing some work from this guy in MR for future posts since he got his design in the main page not even sidebar. You scratch my back and I scratch yours.
