Why would they have to license it? Apple has a patent on this from a couple years ago.

Not sure what you're trying to say here exactly, but there will be an iPhone 8 or X or whatever it is called in September 2017. There have been all kinds of leaks with this info, we wouldn't see leaks for a product a year or more out. They also don't need anything from Qualcomm as Apple has a patent on this utility from a couple years ago. They have been working on it for some time now. And lastly, what is game over? Game over for Apple? I am not sure I understand.
Yeah, you're right! All the leaks that we get every year is all true. I can't wait!

...is based on Qualcomm technology...

Patents. Qualcomm is all about Patents.
This demo could well be a pre-curser to Qualcomm filing a law suit against Apple when the iPhone 8 launches claiming intellectual property theft.
Even if they don't have any valid patents to back it up it can still look, to the consumers and others, as "big bad Apple stealing ideas once again".
Raining on Apple's parade in their moment of glory.
Remember how pissed Qualcomm was when Apple announced the world's first 64bit ARM processor power smart phone with the A7 chip?

Qualcomm's obviously got problems stemming from it's exec's egos.

I don't think the announcement is made for Apple to look like a theft. It is just a defensive move. If rumors are to be believed (and I assume some Qualcomm execs do not want to take the risk), then Apple will be first to manufacture and sell such technology. So Qualcomm doesn't want to look like they make me-too technology and tell the world they are working on such hardware in parallel (may be preventing Apple to sue them).

They are using ultrasonic technology.

Just curious, will it work when music is playing?? The vibrations of the screen/metal chassis and so on.. will it affect the ultrasound read back??

Or when the area is noisy??

Well we can only speculate ////hope to see it soon

Having not heard of them, doesn't negate the evidence of them marketing a product before Apple, and Qualcomm using that as an argument that their patents and inventions indeed do help innovate / propel cell phone technology, in their ongoing suit with Apple. Vivo doesn't matter in this scenario, they are a blip on most people's radar. Qualcomm is the one that did it first, not Vivo.

I agree with most of what you wrote, except for the rarely part. For every example of a big company you give, I can give at least two small companies or events where being first did matter. That would be a 66% comparison in favor of timeliness. However, that would be splitting hairs, when there is merit to the rest of what you said.

There is no product though. There is a prototype and a video, very different. And from the looks of it, not a very good prototype in its current state.

Ok that's pretty cool tech but can we take a step back and please talk about how ridiculous that commercial is? They make it look like smart phones is life . *insert explosion sound effect here* I especially like the part where the phone is picked up and suddenly images of dolphins, raindrops, and I think space and/or other pointless things that are supposed to be inspiring are flashed across the screen. Is this supposed to make sense to me or make me want to buy this phone? I'm sorry but I don't remember picking my phone up off of a flat surface, (i.e. - a desk) was that "exciting" or "exhilarating". Commercials are garbage.

Read the white paper then. You'll be missing the dolphins and explosions soon enough.

iPhones already have fingerprint sensors. I'm referring to the them being mounted under a solid-pane screen as being incremental and not vital. Sure, it might help the phone be more dust/water resistant but people have survived just fine without water/dust proof phones. For goodness sake, if you're going scuba diving secure your iPhone.

I understood your point and I'm referring to the fact that, if you have a full screen phone, as the iPhone X is rumoured to be, then there are only two alternatives, either to have a fingerprint sensor on the back or to have it under the screen – I prefer under the screen.
