Than release it! Why do some developers feel so entitled these days? It's not going to cost you anything (being not for profit) and you already have it running in test flight.

What do you mean entitled? There IS a cost to releasing it. You don't release software to the public then forget about it. The software will need to be supported and updated. Each visionOS release, however minor, will need to be regression tested. Being a not for profit has nothing to do with it. Releasing the software will incur development costs in time and labor, and will affect their scheduling and support of all their other software versions.

I'm an AVP owner and software engineer, and while I'd like them to release their VLC native app, I can understand their decision to hold off until they have more of a user base to justify it.

That’s a dangerous position to take. Whilst I don’t mind paying for Apple Music I do still want the option to rip CDs, hoard my own media and not be perpetually renting it.

It just beggars belief that a device this expensive running a port of iOS doesn’t have such basic functionality.
What is the complaint here? You can absolutely load up raw MP3 files on the Vision Pro - put them in the Files app from iCloud or just Airdrop them. Or put them in Music and hear them there. I don't understand the problem?

I wonder at what point Apple will consider AVP a “failure” due to such low demand. It is quite clear that developers have the same sentiment that the user base of AVP is so low they choose not to invest in making a compatible app. It is slowly becoming apparent that Apple is marketing the device away from consumers to enterprise. Will AVP go the way of HoloLens and Magic Leap One?

Probably not less than two months after it’s US release before they’ve launched in even a single additional country. Further, since they are only projecting to produce around half a million units in 2024, I’d also venture a guess that they aren’t expecting a huge number of users either but why use common sense and wait a while when you can jump the gun in a desperate attempt to reinforce your own prognostications about a new device that isn’t meant to appeal to a mass market at this time based on the technology, the cost and the number of units being manufactured?

Guaranteed it's just a port of the app to the Vision Pro. The makers of VLC, and many others don't have the courage or the "vision" to try to make an app that unlocks the potential of what the Vision Pro and spatial computing could be capable of. It will take entirely new start ups who will think outside the box (like what eventually happened on smart phone apps).

I really like VLC. The iPad version runs on the Apple Vision Pro. I use it to connect to my NAS storage device. It would be great if they had a native version for the AVP.

You can’t just drag and drop them from the Finder on the Mac like you can with an iPhone. Listening from Files is not the same and iTunes Match/Apple Music cost money.

In other words Apple has put a paywall up if you want to use your own media files.

And? As an investor, I can see how much money VLC has procured off it's own customer base. Is there a point bragging about unreleased software to the paying public,..where do you think the donations are going? The customer donations paid for the programming, pays for the testing and paid for the VLC test AVP's. VLC is beholden to it's customers, not the other way round. As an AVP owner myself, I say just release it and stop being entitled.

Accurate color representation of HDR videos has long been an issue for MacOS. I presume this is the case for iOS as well. Perhaps the washed out or oversaturated videos on VisionOS will finally encourage videolan.org to make this a priority.

You test and refine things before releasing them, that’s how this works, open source as well as closed….

I believe it's an acronym for "Greatest of all time?"

I like infuse too. It's perhaps the closest replacement for airvideo I can find. Store videos in my cloud storage (eg: OneDrive), and I can then access them on my Apple TV.
Ah yes, not heard that one before. I use infuse too, same as yourself (with OneDrive), and it works amazingly well (it’s great having access from anywhere in the world on all my devices).

I’ve had a few recent issues with lip sync on certain files when match frame rate is on (Apple TV), but other than that, it’s fantastic, especially with my lifetime pro subscription.

I wonder if Infuse will come to VP.

I think they just haven't gotten around to implementing that. If it were a cash grab on Apple's part, why would they have enabled this on all of their more popular platforms? VisionOS has a long way to go to catch up to the functionality of Apple's other platforms.
