Honestly, Catalina has been stable for me. From the variety of experiences people seem to be having, there’s no right answer to this.
Ditto. I think Migration Assistant pooping the bed when I got my new Mac last month helped me, because instead of cloning my CCC bootable backup I decided to spend the time re-installing 180+ apps and then migrating my 14 Parallels VMs over from the CCC volume. Totally stable w/no issues, including Parallels. I work for an MSP and am out at customer sites multiple times per week, connecting to all kinds of different networks, peripherals, external displays, etc. I have a Boot Camp partition I game out of and zero issues there either.

I need to note, however, that I have 64 GB of RAM, so that likely helps. In my 40+ years of Apple device ownership, I've always maxed out the RAM and never once regretted it.

That's how I've always managed backups too. For me, I use time machine to manage the backing up process, but then, will copy stuff back by hand from the time machine backup. Documents, settings, and Apps (not on the app store) that are simple drag and drop to install. For the app store apps,I just reinstall from the app store, and Apps that require more than simple drag and drop, then those I'll re-download and install. I've had very few issues that way, and it doesn't take me long to get a system functional again, about 1 to 3 hours, give or take.

I am glad Apple pushed out the update, while I personally didn't have any issues, I feel better knowing I applied the update just to ensure I won't down the road.

Wasn’t it still called System 7 back then? ;)

Only in its early years!

If I remember correctly:
From version 1.0 until 7.6, it was referred to as Macintosh System <version> or just System <version> for short.

I've used the mac since version 7.0 was new, and have used System 6 as well. I've also had rare occasions for earlier versions, especially at school. For Home use though, it was pretty much system 7.0.1 forward,

I also grew up with the Apple II and //e, etc IIGS. Just thought I would share some memories with Apple Vets, and to also add insight to the naming of the OS. FYI, if memory serves correctly, It was first named Mac OS with the release of version 8.0

You can see it in the post right above yours. 7.6 was called "Mac OS 7.6," and was the first version of the Macintosh operating system to not be called "System x."

Looks like Apple has pushed out a fix!

Sounds like a good news. I'm still at 10.15.5, can anyone help confirm the supplemental update actually fixed the issue?
If yes, I'll begin the update.

BTW, how about BigSur os11? I signed up for the public update, is the VM issue with os11 too?

Big Sur will need all new VM software. Then, we will have a whole new world of bugs and problems to fix and work around :)

aahhhh.... Parallels 16 specifically mentioned it is good with Big Sur. I only have one working MacBook Pro now otherwise I would give it a try~

Being good with "Big Sur" doesn't mean its good with Apple Silicon.

I've been working in Fusion for hours since the update with no panics.

Looking for some feedback on VMFusion Tech Preview and Big Sur. Anyone running this? Thoughts?
Thanks
All I've heard is they have announced VMware 12 officially, but it doesn't seem to be out yet, at least check for updates doesn't show a new version yet. Thought it might be out by now, as VMware usually releases the new version around this time of year.

The latest Big Sur beta has broken networking entirely in virtual machines in the Fusion tech preview, so it's not super useful right now.

Hey all, VMWare Fusion 12 is live. I just purchased my upgrade license prior to posting this.
Select check for updates in the Fusion app, and you should be given information. Just thought I would share in case people wanted to know :)
