Volume and mute buttons no longer work

So yesterday the TV remote no longer can adjust the volume or mute my external speakers. I tried restarting the Apple TV. I deleted the old volume profile and re-added the buttons and that did not work either. Not sure where to go from here. I have been having to use my speaker remote in the meantime. Has anyone experienced this issue before?

How are the external speakers connected and which type of speakers?

Depending on the remote - is it fully charged/did you check the batteries?

Yep, tvOS 15.5.1 and 15.6 seem to have broken HDMI-CEC with my LG and Sonos setup. I've owned Apple TV 4K since Christmas, and now basic volume up, down and mute don't even work. What garbage the Apple software team keeps putting out. It's so frustrating.
