I think the Apple Watch Ultra looks like a bag of smashed axxholes. It's perhaps one of the ugliest products Apple has ever produced. It looks like a prototype that was made in a 12 year old's garage. It may have some very good watch functions but I would undergo cyclical vomiting if I had to wear that piece of axx everyday.

After watching Marques' video I think I'm being too mean on the series 8 design. I do think the series 8 is a lot more practical for every day use. I think in Apple's ideal world you have at least 2 watches: an ultra and a regular series 8. One for everyday and the other for when you need the battery or extra features.

Previous design was more sleek. The Ultra does look more ugly in comparison to be fair.....

I think many of you are going to be blown away upon seeing it in person -- especially in comparison to others in this category. I think it's going to look amazing.

Go look at any tool watches right now. Casio G-Shocks. Luminox. Garmins. Any mechanical diver, at any price. Apple Watch Ultra is going to blow many of them away, and hold its own against the uber-expensive Swiss mechanical offerings. Which one of these would you rather:

+1 Horses for courses! For my lifestyle though, the regular AW 7/8 strikes a nice balance. It has the majority of the features I need (fitness tracking, etc..) for the things I do and looks great for anything from workouts..to casual….to business. A nice jack of all trades for me.

Not sure how you can say it's ugly given the options to change both the strap and what's showing on the display? Possibly due to larger size it won't look quite so good on smaller wrists, that's the only downside I can see.

It depends. Among other watches in the same market segment, it's one of the best-looking designs. Compared to the standard Apple Watch, it's certainly not as aesthetically pleasing. Compared to traditional mechanical watches (with the exception of Hublot and Richard Mille), it's downright ugly.

Why are you comparing mechanical watches to the Apple Watch?

Compare things like the Garmin Fenix 7 or Tag Hauer E4 etc. which are nicer looking and actually have some features that are better than the Apple Watch Ultra. Heck the Fenix can get as much as 21 days battery life.

Dude, look at the hardware. They stick some piece of metal on one side which may have some questionable functional purpose and decide to add yet a 3rd big axx button on the other side!

How much more byzantine can you get! My god they can’t figure out how to make a Crown and a second button work enough so they add a third big ass button.

Apple needs to get rid of all crowns and buttons and make the Watch way sleeker. Put a haptic control on it and maybe on the Ultra have just one physical control for gloves. I could go on…

And seriously, how effective can some watch on your wrist be with relatively tiny controls with gloves on? I live in Canada and some of the gloves we wear in -25 degrees are so meaty even with these extra controls it would be very hard to use the device with gloves on no matter how many buttons are on it.

The watch is OK, it's the bands that are messed up. One band will be almost unusable I suspect. One is for swimming, which I ordered, not realizing that, but it's the best looking one, IMO. The trail, which is probably the right one for me, has a weird tab for some reason.

Watch is OK, bands are no bueno!

I certainly don’t think Garmin’s watches look nicer. They fall into the most typical trap of round smart watch design.

You really need to get a grip :D

It's a dive/spports watch. They are supposed to look ugly. It's probably not ugly enough for a lot dudes. LOL

I use to wear a dive watch for years. Casio I think. Sort of Tank-ish. Plenty of photos here actually. I did use it on dives. You need one. But you only really need a depth-proof stopwatch. But this will do :)

When I first saw it I wasn't sure, but as with most Apple products the design grew on me. I think one needs to remember that this is more of a purpose-driven watch, e.g., hiking, diving, etc., unlike the traditional AW which is designed to go from sports to casual to even somewhat dressy occasions. I'm not sure the Ultra could be my daily driver without seeing it in person and trying it on first.
