I don't know why everyone thinks they need to swap sims. Transferred my upgrade (since I'm unlimited) to my wife's line to buy phone. Activated the phone on my line when it got here. No sim changing. Confirmed with several reps that I still have unlimited. Did the same thing last year as well with no issue.
I have a family plan. I upgraded and ordered iPhone 6+ on a 2 g line planning to activate it on that line then transfer to my unlimited line to preserve the unlimited. Are you saying that when the phone comes I can just activate it on my unlimited line, even though I upgraded and ordered it on the 2g, and still keep my unlimited? Or do I have to activate on the 2g and switch?

I am on a family plan. My line has unlimited, but I was using the upgrade from a different line that has 2gb data. While pre-ordering the phone, I chose the 2gb data thing since there was no other option (and since that was what was true for the phone # I was using to order). When I picked up my phone, I was told I had to call Verizon to switch the activation from the line with the upgrade to my line. At the end of the call, I took the risk and asked the guy which data plan I had - I assumed I would be bumped to 2gb, but he said I had unlimited, and that he wouldn't flip the switch on me. Thanked him about a million times, and that was it! So basically...I didn't do anything "special" to keep unlimited. Beyond thrilled :D

Yes

Yes you can activate on the unlimited line straight away without having to first activate on the 2gb line you initially ordered the upgrade on.

There are many different ways to keep unlimited data and still use your upgrade from that line.

Then there is the transfer upgrade method where you transfer your upgrade from your unlimited line to a tiered data line. Order the phone. turn it on when it arrives to complete activation on the tiered line. And then just swap your unlimited sim into the phone. This extends the contract of your unlimited line but does NOT cause you to lose unlimited. Anyone saying otherwise is misinformed (including many sales reps).

I did this when I upgraded to the 5s and it worked but looks like some people here saying it doesn't work anymore.

yea you can't do this, i just tried right now, they said by transferring the upgrade from the unlimited line to any other line was pretty much the same thing as upgrading the unlimited line and therefore i would lose unlimited data

I walked into the Verizon store, handed in my iPhone 5 for trade, told them I wanted the iPhone 6 purchased outright and no change to my calling plan. I confirmed that my unlimited plan remained intact before I walked out. Took about an hour to complete as Friday was a little busy.

How did you try to do it? Website? Store employees?

I had to do it online because when I tried it in store the employees looked at me like I was an idiot. But when I went home and did it online with an online rep it worked fine and there wasn't any hassle like there was in store.
