You will eat through your data plan fast, no doubt about it. With the release of the new iPad, normal people are starting to see what an issue data caps are.

What caps? The carriers will sell you all the data you want, just so long as you keep paying for what you use.

You may not like the price, but that's a different matter than there being a "cap"

Really?
Look I don't want to get in an argument here but you thread title is pretty conclusive of what you said and how it can be interpreted.

Ok you got me. I think cellular providers are scam artists. Feel better?.. Geeze, are u a shareholder or something. Go get some fresh air and sunshine.

I think I agree with the fact you have to trust a company who doesn't have the best track records. These same companies will end up putting bandwidth caps on your home service along with your mobile service. Your cable company doesn't make enough money on just internet service and now you can get just about everything on that one connection. In the future if they allow it to continue just about no one will have cable television and will be streaming everything over the internet. They never saw this coming or you wouldn't be allowed to do it. This same thing is happening with mobile devises. Overall our infrastructure in the US pretty well sucks and needs huge upgrades over the next generation or your speed will be just about 0.

what about when att/vzw offered unlimited data, but are throttling those who actually use what they paid for?

If not getting throttled is important, switch to a tiered plan and enjoy full speed on every gigabyte you pay for.

The old unlimited plans had TOS conditions allowing carrier action if they were abused. People abused them, the carriers took action. Where in your TOS did it say you get 100GB of full speed data? You're not on a contract on data plans AFAIK so switch to tiered if it's a problem. You keep paying each month knowing you're subject to throttling, so you are getting what you're paying for. The alternative would be for the carriers to simply eliminate the old unlimited plans.

Yes I think the data prices are outrageous and it'd be lovely if the prices and limits were more reasonable. That will come in time, look at cost of minutes now vs 15 years ago.

In case you don't think data caps are an issue:

I've not seen any "throttling" on my Verizon unlimited data plan. ATT has stated they will but if not mistaken Verizon has an agreement with the FCC based on how they were able to purchase a portion of the 700Mhz spectrum. One of the few strings attached by the FCC was no throttling and not limiting the device the sim card can be used in.

I'll try to find the link and post it. However so far well over 6gigs in the past week and zero issues, throttling or otherwise.
