Ditto. I switched to T-Mobile recently (from AT&T) and my wife and I have been blaming T-Mobile for dropped calls. Once I turned off VoLTE (Settings | Cellular | Enable LTE | Data Only), call drops stopped.

T-mobile can switch from volte to 3G/umts in the middle of a call no problem (and I have tested this a few times in the last 2 weeks).

Are you handing off from lte to 2g perhaps? That will unfortunately drop the call as that type of transition is not supported.

T mobile announced that in the next 9 months the full 2g network will have an LTE overlay.

That might be what's happening as my office is on a high rise and the signal varies depending on the floor. I am looking forward to full 2G to LTE transition but the transition is a bit painful as AT&T provided very solid reception (but at much higher cost and worse feature sets).
