Wait for penrynn Macbook Pro?

I expect the January 15 SteveNote will introduce the 45nm 2.6GHz Penryn MBP. That's when I'll finally graduate to an Intel MBP from my old PB G4. They're only scheduled to go to 2.8GHz next Fall so that's too far out to wait any longer for me.

There are no more PowerMacs Machatch. New Mac Pros come out November 13 not in January.

The upgrade from 2,4 to 2,6 is nearly just a "tweak"😉

It's not just a tweak because of the cooler longer battery life and larger 6MB L2 Cache of the Penryn. If the 2.8 comes out early in January, perhaps Apple will offer that as a BTO option. That would be so cool - or maybe just too HOT!. 😱 😛 🙂

There are no more PowerMacs Machatch. New Mac Pros come out November 13 not in January.It's not just a tweak because of the faster 800MHz FSB, cooler longer battery life and larger 6MB L2 Cache of the Penryn. If the 2.8 comes out early in January, perhaps Apple will offer that as a BTO option. That would be so cool.

You're right its not just a tweak from 2,4 -2,6.
Yeahh it really would be something with 2,8 as an option in january.. have a "large pile of cash" so it wouldent suprise me if they did😉..But the warm issues would still be a problem with 2,8?..even though it would be cool with 2,8 that early.It surly would be dissapoiting if the 2,8 creates to many "problems" at the first lineup...

I'm also waiting for a macbook pro and here are the numbers from Intel released in their IDC conference in Sept:

Penryn processors will have 10-20% performance increase over similarly speeded CPUs now and will be released starting in Nov. 2007 - However, many sites claim that macbook pros will likely get this revision during January Macworld.

Montevina (the next platform after the current Santa Rosa) will be released Q2 '08. However, chips for Montevina that will take use of most of its features (faster FSB, Wimax support) will not be released until Q3 '08. One of the best things about waiting until the second half of 2008 is the introduction of quad-core macbook pros running on Montevina. Montevina will be significantly faster (there are no numbers yet but likely 30% given Intel history) than Santa Rosa and is the better upgrade to wait for if you can wait for the chips as well.

One plus about the Penryn processor is that it runs cooler so should have a better battery life.

Thus, this is your decision:
A. Buy now, enjoy, and forget about it
B. Wait for January, get a 10-15% speed bump and some more battery time
C. Wait for Summer '08 get a 30% speed bump for equivalent chip speed, quad-core processor, and likely a new graphics chip.

I need to have a new notebook before May (hard deadline) so I will likely wait till January and have to give up the dream of quad-core. However, I have also read that Intel sees its future with no less than 64 core processors in the next few years, so who cares, by the time you need to update again, this decision will seem completely moot as you'll be able to get a 64-core 8Ghz Mac OS 12.3 powerhouse.

But Second half to 2008 is a long time to wait..And we dont know for shure if apple gonna take on montevina that early..
I think in november - january they take the notch to 2,6 then in june-july they take it to 2,8 ,then in november-january(08-09) something like montevina hapends..This also depends on rest of the computer industry..if they use penryns fast shure apple would do so..
And if they do change to montevina in the second half i hope they change the graphics to...just my dime,2 cents,nickel,appletrash,applehatch

So I Just got done chatting with an apple store rep and they offered this advice.
Basically you know everything will be updated at some point so really do you wait forever or get what you need when you need it.
They do accept returns within i believe 14 days, so I figure if next Tuesday I get a new macbook pro with leopard installed or with the installation disks for the next two weeks if nothing is released I am good.
Any which way she went on to say I should be very happy doing audio and video and she sees this computer as a well made machine that is "not easy to improve upon such a great laptop". Ha, yet we all have some ideas how to. ;-) haha
Anyways, I say maybe the "Bilvox Plan" is a good one. I have been a good little patient bv... So Tuesday here I come!!!!

I bought a Imac G5 4 days before the Imac where updated and the intels where brought out. I couldnt return my G5 to the store.
