It would be equally dumb to wait for something that by all practical measure doesn't exist. If you need a phone, and you like what the iPhone has to offer, you should just buy it. Even if you wait for the "new -unannounced and unsubstantiated - iPhone," you will quickly find yourself with a technologically inferior product anyway (because within x months the next best thing will be released and probably trump what you waited for, anyway).
I'm starting to get somewhat annoyed by people new to the site. Not the OP though.

Schiller never specified whether the update cycle referred to hardware or software. If he meant hardware you might be right, if he meant software you're probably wrong, and if he meant both then we won't know until the magical day hits. Stop proclaiming you know what can't be known - you sound like an idiot.
