Okay I'm gonna avoid all the craigslist lulz...

You shouldn't have to wait 3 weeks. If you want one that bad and have a bit of time, you can be placed on some sort of waitlist (maybe). I dunno if they're going to do it this year for sure, but Best Buys last year had a wait list on the iPad 2 due to their high demand. We had people calling in left and right so much that we added a "if you are calling about the iPad, push 5" or something message to our phone lines.

I am not positive if Best Buy will do this- I'm not even sure every location did it. But if you are down for waiting, I would try Friday morning, Saturday morning, and Sunday morning.

Consider checking out Verizon stores, Best Buys, and Apple stores all three days too - if you really want one.

With all the preorders that were out and the different retailers that are carrying it (VZW, Apple for sure, BBY very likely, ATT possibly), you just have to hit the right store. It is not going to be a long a wait as the iPad 2, I speculate.

Wait, definitely. I would NEVER buy from those craigslist imbeciles.:p

The imbeciles are the buyers, not the sellers. The market is created by idiots willing to overpay. If they would just be reasonable and refuse to overpay, there would be no sellers charging exhorbitent rates.

The fear mongers here will be scared of anything, of course craigslist can't ever be 100% safe, but neither can anything else. These incidents that happen are remote. If you use common sense, you should be fine, but yes there's still that <1% chance a person will rob/murder you. But like others said, that can happen anywhere! If you're going to be constantly scared of that, why not be constantly scared to go outside and drive somewhere because you could get in a car accident for example? That has a much higher chance of happening even to people who do everything right.

And for the record, I did just sell my iPad 2 16 GB for $350 to a very nice nurse practitioner here in my city off craigslist earlier today.

I agree. That doesn't happen that often statistically.

However, in my opinion, if you're buying an iPad you've to admit the seller could think you are potentially wealthy. Why? Because a tablet is a luxury item, and prices are still quite high. That logic of course applies to iPhones and whatever.
Bring some friends over and you'll be fine.
The other option is: don't walk around with anything that could lead someone to think you could be a deal. Of course, this is absolutely not necessary, as common sense would assure you a great level of peace of mind.

i'd go back in time and pre-order to make my life a lot easier. i did that this morning, and it looks like my ipad will be here on the sixteenth. no. i will not loan you my time machine.

craigslist is fine. i use it all the time. be careful, though, anytime you set up a meeting with a stranger to give them something valuable (money or cash). that kind of goes without saying...

So this happened while other diners watched? And this being Houston, I should believe no one had a gun on them besides the crooks?

I carry a gun when I make craigslist sales.

+1 Sold iPad and iPhone as well as purchased items off craigslist and I ALWAYS carry my gun (have a concealed license permit)...being a former Infantrymen doesn't hurt either
