What's so hard to understand that I wont be installing\downloading any programs that require the 'higher specifications'

Not now, but if you intend on keeping the thing for more than a year or so, you will be.

The current models are running on a platform that was developed in late 2005 and released in January 2006.

The new SR Macbook will be running a platform from May 2007. That's a year and a half newer. (a long ****ing time in technology)

You also say that you're going to be doing photography or something, and if you're going to be working with raws in aperture or something, the GMA 950 in the current macbook blows ass.. GMA 3000 or whatever comes with santa rosa will be much better.

Bottom line is you waited this long, so wait until mid november when they release the new macbook updates (which i've been saying for 4 months now btw :p)

How do you know in the future what apps you may or may not require? My advice is to wait until the end of October and get the updated MacBook with Leopard. That way you won't start off one generation behind. My attitude is why buy old technology if new is right around the corner for the same price or maybe even less.

If I wait for the updates, I will either have to wait 1-2+ months to get the deal on the mid model from my dad's friend, or just buy the low end macbook, after update from the apple store...
Basically my only problem is the wait... I don't want to have to wait for a long time, to finally get the macbook... I totally thought I was going to get my MacBook no later than a week into November... and now that there are rumors of them most likely being updated by Mid November... I gotta wait at least another month for my dad's friend to get them in, so I can afford them...

It's just too much waiting...
I really don't know what to do, if I had the extra $140, I would totally wait for the update, and just buy it from apple... but since I don't, I am relying on my dad's friend to get them... and I don't even know if he will still be selling apple products by then... (it is mainly a pc company)

My only options are:
1) Wait for the update, and buy the low end macbook from apple (superdrive would be nice to have, but to my knowledge I don't absolutely need it... but I would love to have it) (with this, I may not even be able to get the macbook... because idk if the guy will still be selling apple products by then, and if he is, if he will ever get the new ones in....)

2) Wait 1-2+ months and buy the updated mid model from dad's friend for cheap...

3) Buy mid model MacBook, refurbished from apple, after leopard is released

I guess I can wait until they announce the update... they might not even update the graphics, if they don't, I will just buy a refurb with leopard... if they do, I will just come up with a decision then...

I just talked to my dad about this,
and he said he will talk to his friend and see how long it takes for him to get new apple products, after they are released...

And after talking about the company his 'friend' works for, it seems more like a reliable place... so yeah, I guess I will wait for the update, depending on what they change.
