Waiting for 27" Quad to SHIP thread

Mine spent a good 197 hours touring Shanghai. It cleared customs before it even reached US soil. Once it finally arrived in Alaska, it arrived in Florida over night (with one pit stop in KY).
Unfortunately it was delivered to my work and, since we're out for thanksgiving break, I won't be able to see if it's in one piece until Monday. I tried changing the shipping address to my house, but they said work had already called in to have them hold all of our packages for this week and that they couldn't access my iMac until Monday. I'm a bit worried with all of the postings here and on other forums with cracked screens and other display issues, but I just have to keep telling myself that for every damaged iMac I hear about, surely there's got to be numerous more working perfectly fine that I haven't heard about. At least, that's what I tell myself so I can sleep 😉

Finally taken the plunge and ordered the 27" i7 (1TB, 4GB RAM) from the UK online Apple store, estimated shipping 11th Dec and estimated delivery 22nd Dec.
Fingers crossed this one is perfect, I had the last gen top spec 24", first had duff fan, second had a damaged stand (chips missing) and third had dead pixels. Apple refused to send any further replacements after the third so being within my 14 days I returned for refund.
I also had bad luck with my Rev A MacBook Air, it took 4 replacements to get a non-faulty one. Two had broken button on trackpad (button slid about) and one had defective screen.

checked again with the store today. The manager knows me by my number on his call display. He has a long list of equipment to arrive in his store tomorrow. He went through the entire list while I waited on the phone. My system will not be in that shipment. He checked online and my order is still " in process" and has not even changed to " ready to ship". I cancelled my order and he reluctanty refunded my money. I have been trying to purchase an imac since Sept 17 when I first tried to get a 24". That was cancelled by apple more than a month later on Oct 21. Ordered 27" on Oct 24 and have been waiting ever since. Now it was my turn to cancell. quite an ordeal I have been putting up with. Should make a great story for the grandchildren in 30 years or so. I will order online tonight and start the waiting game once again. sigh🙁
What would this top line about the address change mean - has anyone experienced this? I was rather expecting "Out for Delivery" note this morning.

Yes, the couriers here are indeed reliable, fast and careful. It's nothing like UPS back home in the states.
Come on back! I sometimes wish there were more gaijin living nearby as I live in a relatively remote area from the major cities where it's almost all Japanese. Sometimes it's good to speak English.
By the way, back on topic: did you take delivery of your quad core and if so how is it? At 3 days of heavy usage here I'm almost ready to declare this machine problem-free. The last thing I was worrying about was the flickering issue I've read so much about but I've seen no evidence of it whatsoever. I love this machine!😀

"Merge in Transit - Netherlands" I think.
It means the computer and remote will meet in Holland and travel together after that.

Damnit, I ordered on the 21st and mine is still not shipped. Not impressed Apple, especially as you're then claiming it takes over a WEEK to ship from China to the UK.
I am also astonished at how long it takes but hey... sometimes im regretting ordering both things together coz i feel it might slow it down.
Im not in the UK tho but in belgium.

Why are you astonished? I can't even begin to imagine how difficult it is to organise built to order production and shipping.
It's not like they're posting an envelope from China.

Okay, so I checked on the status of my i7 delivery this morning and was happy to see that it had arrived in Phoenix and was at the FedEx depot.
The scheduled delivery was for Monday though, which is a full 3 days ago.
I called FedEx to if they would mind me simply stopping by and picking it up. They said that was fine and gave me the address. The computer is just a few miles from my house but FedEx has procedures they follow.
I stopped by with my transit number and they said it hadn't been scanned in yet but if I left them my number they would call me as soon as they had located it at the facility. I have until 7pm to pick it up, which should be long enough for them to find it.
That will mean that between the order date (Nov 17th) and the date I received it (Nov 27th) there was a total of ten days time. Not too bad.
If anyone else is looking to get their hands on their new machine, for the weekend, it might be worth seeing if your computer is near enough to home to go pick it up.

I am astonished primarilly because im impatient...
But also because i was expecting the shipment time to actually be the "quick(ish)" part while the building would actually be the long part... So i was so happy that it shipped so quickly but now im just left here waiting, especially because i don't have as precise info as all you guys seem to have about where the imac actually is. I guess thats because i ordered with the remote and its gonna "merge in transit" or whatever

5 days to pull a stock machine off the line and plop in an i7 and a bigger HDD isn't a hard task. Apple have done BTO in less than 2 days in the past. Simply put, it isn't hard.
As for shipping? 1 day to get it from factory to airport. Another day on a plane/in-transit. 1 more day to get it from the airport to the customer. It isn't like Apple are using boats to move their goods around...
As for your envelope analogy...actually, it kind of is just like that, except it's bigger.
You chose a beautiful place to live. I used to love coming to Shikoku for rafting or just hiking... My wife's from Komatsu, not too far away up North.
My replacement iMac arrived, not perfect again - but as they say, perfection isn't available to humans.

Yes, Apple says they are not going to stock the i7. I do not know why. Based on the size of this forum, maybe they will change their mind. So, the i7 is ordered only online, made in China, then takes a world wide trip to you. Their are worth the hassle, in my opinion. Good luck.
