Congrats 2 u!
See, you do have a life!! :D:p

Did you get tracking info by any chance?

:p Not yet. I'm guessing that will come tomorrow and that I'll get it Friday or Saturday (at least I hope).

I can't figure out the shipment pattern but I'm sure there is one. My first guess was that each configuration had a queue -- so your stock i5s will go, then i5s with more RAM, etc. But now I'm curious if banking stuff is involved. My card is with Bank of America, which is the bank Apple uses, so I wasn't surprised that I got the pending big charge on the 5th...but who knows.

Oh and The Samauri -- I can't believe your order got canceled. I hope they can reinstate it asap!

waiting on this iMac with a bunch of people on forums, feels like a premature new years eve countdown.

At the end we will all congratulate eachother, and mentioning how time flies.
not believing we're finally using our new macs and looking back at these forums we used to refresh every minute, realizing how desperate we were.

I'm hallucinating again...

Do you really want to wait for Black Friday for a discount that may or not appear, inventory that may not be there and crowds that will be sure to aggravate you?

Really, why not enjoy life and forget about all these "discounts". Spend the time watching television or helping a friend. You don't want to wait in line at the Apple store, do you? You don't.

OMG!!!

Prepared for Shipment! (been checking alllll day so it must've just happened!)

i7 - Base/stock

This is a replacement for my dieing iMac via AppleCare. They offered the base C2D but allowed me to pay the difference to upgrade.

Order placed afternoon/evening of 10/28

Illinois USA

When it arrives, I'm going to light a scented candle and wait for hubby to come home for the..... unboxing....

So I'm not the only one! This is a replacement for my dieing 2.16GHz 24" iMac with 3GB of memory, as well. Hmmm... makes me think there are thousands out there like us. Issue with the GPU overheating, eh?

LMAO! Spend the time watching television? You do mean, "spend the time traveling the world, or helping some kids in Africa" don't you? Spending time watching television is as much of a waste of time as waiting somewhere in line. (Unless it's the History Channel, Discovery Channel, or Nat Geo Channel, of course. :p)

Had to call apple because I didn't understand the whole first come first serve basis.

Turns out that that apparently is the case with Apple. First come, first serve.

Unfortunately, mine configuration and I suppose all the orders if I'm correct in my understanding are being checked out, to be sure that this configuration is working as intended by Apple. Daniell (Sales Rep) stated Apple wants to be sure that the configurations on this type of system are new and Apple wanted to be sure that my configuration does indeed work. ??????

Then I asked when will it actually ship and she stated, after a hold on the phone, that it was expected to ship on the 14th.

I asked what does "Priority" shipping mean for this shipment and she said that Apple has it set up to send out immediately and the fastest way possible after the order is ready to ship.

All in all, I really don't know how people are getting their iMac's faster. I guess some of us are the guinea pigs in this new Apple configuration. But then again if I am some sort of test, then why are some of those same types of configurations acting as ready to ship?

Like the day after I ordered I'm lost with this whole process. I guess I won't see my iMac until sometime next week.

maybe if you keep checking your order status online over and over again the site will get tired of you doing it and just ship it out.... only if that worked, id have my i7 weeks ago!

i just called apple support and talked to "stormy". i asked her if she was also a stripper but she didn't understand.

the recording said that my i7 Quad 8GB 27" (ordered 10/30, W655) was prepared for shipping but my online it still says shipping in november.

Stormy said that mine was still just shipping in november. I asked her a number of questions for others on here, here are the answers:

1) All Imacs are being shipped out in order of order placement, first come first serve.

2) She said there is no Country preference although she said that it looked like the USA was getting theirs a bit earlier.

3) She said there was no preference between i5 and i7 on shipping earlier but it looks like the i5's did go out a little earlier.

4) She said payment type didn't matter

5) She said all stock ones were shipping before custom ones

6) She said they were given no real reason for the delays other than an overwhelming response. she did say she heard it might be due to the graphic cards but that was just scuttlebutt around the office, nothing official from apple.

6A) She said the more you refresh your screen the faster your iMac will be shipped.

7) She said she wouldn't go out with me because she didn't date guys my age...

Any news on Australian i7's yet?

My card was authorised on Friday, but no change since then :(

Nah, exactly the same case here... Order #W5746... I'm really curious how much slower will shipments to OZ be compared to the US. They might as well take a short side-trip with the first batch of i7s' heading to the states and drop some off in Australia, you know, just to keep the kangaroos happy... :D

#W5746 here too...

I am sure Apple is not building them in the same order they were ordered in -- that would be inefficient and expensive. Most likely they are building in batches and stock i5s were most likely the first batch. We do batching in the printing industry for the reasons stated above. Now, where is MY iMac? :D

:

I call absolute and utter BS on that.

This thread is proof that people who have ordered after me have received their shipment emails. Not that I am moaning, they are talking out their backsides :D

Although it is first come first serve, logistics have to be taken into account. There are so many factors. I'm sure you won't be waiting too much longer to see some activity.

I agree, and the sales rep's description of change in status for me from Prepared for Shipment to Not Yet Shipped is bogus.

Why would they pull mine from those to be shipped for testing????? It just didn't sound right.

for those who's orders have changed to "preparred for shipment"

that happened to me and i also did not receive a tracking #,,i called apple
and they had the info availible, they told me the date and TIME it would arrive
good luck

in all seriousness, there is no doubt a method to their madness, im sure it breaks down something like this:

1) They have a supply of iMacs ready to go
2) These iMacs are almost all stock setups
3) They ship the stock setups according to date of stock ones being ordered
4) They then ship the iMacs that may have some custom features but don't include the 4850 that is not in yet.
5) Probably more i5 stock on hand than i7 so they start shipping i5's first.
6) They start shipping all i5 and i7s available first to any special order arrangements they might have made (ie schools, military, government etc)
7) Then they start shipping all remaining i5 and i7 iMacs according to date of purchase.

so, it appears that no one has gotten a REAL tracking number yet..
"prepared for shipment" doesnt mean a thing..

And, also, after many years working in the manufacturing of consumer electronics, I agree that these are being produced in BATCHES, NOT first come first serve...all the I5's stock, all the I7's stock, then the "custom configs" most likely..

here again, "prepared for shipment" doesnt mean squat, until you get a tracking number...

Does anybody knows how much time there is between "prepared for shipping" and "your order has been shipped" notices?? Please!..

I'm guessing you haven't read the whole thread and kept up with the news from yesterday and this morning?

People do indeed have tracking numbers.

I was told by Apple usually within 24 hours, but it could be a few days at the most. My order has been "prepared for shipment" for 12 hours now, and my bank account has not been charged. Usually stuff from Apple happens in my sleep. Hopefully I have a surprise waiting for me tomorrow morning.

My local Apple Store in Canada said they have received word that the i5's should be in stock tomorrow and will arrive in an early afternoon shipment. :)
