in all seriousness, there is no doubt a method to their madness, im sure it breaks down something like this:

1) They have a supply of iMacs ready to go
2) These iMacs are almost all stock setups
3) They ship the stock setups according to date of stock ones being ordered
4) They then ship the iMacs that may have some custom features but don't include the 4850 that is not in yet.
5) Probably more i5 stock on hand than i7 so they start shipping i5's first.
6) They start shipping all i5 and i7s available first to any special order arrangements they might have made (ie schools, military, government etc)
7) Then they start shipping all remaining i5 and i7 iMacs according to date of purchase.

Bit confused as to what you meant by this.
All the quad cores have 4850's in them, and all the i7's are considered BTO, i.e. not stock setups, right?

i just called apple support and talked to "stormy". i asked her if she was also a stripper but she didn't understand.

the recording said that my i7 Quad 8GB 27" (ordered 10/30, W655) was prepared for shipping but my online it still says shipping in november.

Stormy said that mine was still just shipping in november. I asked her a number of questions for others on here, here are the answers:

1) All Imacs are being shipped out in order of order placement, first come first serve.

2) She said there is no Country preference although she said that it looked like the USA was getting theirs a bit earlier.

3) She said there was no preference between i5 and i7 on shipping earlier but it looks like the i5's did go out a little earlier.

4) She said payment type didn't matter

5) She said all stock ones were shipping before custom ones

6) She said they were given no real reason for the delays other than an overwhelming response. she did say she heard it might be due to the graphic cards but that was just scuttlebutt around the office, nothing official from apple.

6A) She said the more you refresh your screen the faster your iMac will be shipped.

7) She said she wouldn't go out with me because she didn't date guys my age...

We already know #1 is not true based on this board.

Have we maybe made a fatal assumption that these order numbers are sequential? They could very well be randomly assigned by a computer and have no meaning on when an order was put in queue. So order #153 could very well be ahead of #22. Just a thought.

Just about everything mileslong posted is wrong. Either they are being sarcastic or the CR they spoke to has no clue what is going on and was biased based on the questions and how mileslong asked them.

I'm guessing you haven't read the whole thread and kept up with the news from yesterday and this morning?

People do indeed have tracking numbers.

yes, you are right, I just checked this thread today, and only read the last 5 or 6 pages..
good to hear that people actually do have tracking numbers; hopefully, that means that all of us will have our machines in the next coupld of weeks.

thanks!

This would be surprising! They usually ship preorders first, the retail stores 2nd and resellers 3rd!

That is not always true. Many times retail stores get their shipments before preorders. Complete luck of the draw. However I would agree about the resellers.

well, they just billed my credit card for my 2 remotes, but my I7's still show "shipping in November"..they have billed my credit card now for 2 Apple Care warranties, that I dont have, 2 Remotes that I dont have either..

Not good business, Apple...

This thread is really awesome :)

I talked to one of the sales people from the local premium Apple reseller here in Norway, just to hear if they knew approx. when they expect to receive the Quad Core iMacs. He told me I could expect one in the end of next week.
Since I was one the first ones to drop by to make an order, he was quite certain that I would receive mine (i5 standard config) from the "first" bulk.

Is he talking BS or could it really be that soon?

Anyone from Norway, Sweden or Denmark who have made an order from a local store (i.e. not on the internets) who've heard something of interest regarding shipment?

Really looking forward for this one :D

Have one reserved at "Eplehuset" in Copenhagen and they said they would recieve it in one to two weeks. :D

Probably so... today's shipments are on pallets and move to the airport for loading... next stop Alaska...:D

i wont believe it till i see some hardware and real deliveries.

I also have a dying imac, graphics card issue found thread with hundreds of others with same issue.....

That probably just means those items are ready to ship. Apple ships as things become available, not the whole order together. Not sure what the big deal is?

You're kidding right? Im sure you will have the remotes shortly. What do you want Apple to do, wait till you have the shipment before billing? Nonsense.

I have been tracking this thread like a hawk as well as refreshing my status page and it is driving me nutz. I must stop and simply wait for my email that has my wonderful tracking number.

But for those on this thread that are upset they wont be getting their iMac until next week or Thanksgiving... what are you so upset about, I mean Apple has stated November from the get go. It is still November.

I check up on this thread multiple times a day, and I have seen no pattern in shipping, other than i5s got shipping first, but then it was random. At least that is what I have seen, people ordering recently getting ship notifications whilst others, like myself that ordered back in October are waiting waiting waiting while people right before and right after have ordered. my head is spinning, it'll slow down as soon as i get my tracking number. all i see now is everything has been grayed out (cancel, edit, etc) for the past few days but nothing more. It seems soo soo close for me!

Finally

Order W6546...

Ordered base i7, October 26th

Prepared for Shipment just came through.

Had a 193 dollar temp authorization that lapsed today. CC charged for the full amount.

Couldn't agree more Merlin!!! Not sure why people are getting up in arms about this. Seems like a non issue until the calendar hits December. Then I would say one has a right to be upset. I guess people haven't ordered new release items off the interweb before?

well, I dont really care about being billed 40 bucks for the 2 remotes, even though it says "ship date" of nov 23rd..its the 330 dollars for the 2 Apple Care warranties, on machines that are still in the "shipping in November" position.
They billed my credit card for the warranties 10 days ago, so, its not like the machines were on pallets, ready to be shipped..I was told no credit card billing until the product is being shipped, so THAT is what the big deal is..billed $370 dollars, and nothing is/has been shipped..

I must have missed that memo by Apple telling us in what exact order they would ship us our orders.

like I said, i dont care about the 38 dollars being billed for the remotes..but the 350 dollars billed for warranties on machines that arent built/shipped yet is wrong..

BTW, I agree with you about the November ship date initially given to ALL of us..there is nothing to bitch about until nov 30th, and you dont have your machine at that point...

Although I haven't been charged on my credit card yet, Apple will not put an order status at "Prepared to ship" with any billing issues, so I can rule that out. I wonder why I haven't seen any activity on my account yet.
