Hey I got a question guys. The news is obviously that Broadwell MBP and MBA are delayed for most likely release in 2015. But the rumor says Apple will release upgraded 11" and 13" MBA in the fall with upgraded chipset, display, and chassis by Qantas... Does this mean though, that there will only be a newly redesigned MBA by the fall? Or will there be an MBP too with an upgraded chipset, display, and chassis? weird enough the rumors dont point to any refresh no matter how minor of an MBP whatsoever... So what is happening?

There is unlikely to be a MBA update until broadwell next year. MBP may get a small spec bump in the fall, or Apple may update it very early in 2015.

That's what I'm getting from the rumours, but of course, none of us here know Apple's release schedule for sure.

Then what do you say about this article, are you calling it bogus? Please do take a look:

I'd say it's a rumour site, but if it is true, I'm puzzled. What could they possibly put in the 11" and 13" Air that justifies a refresh?

I know it's so weird... They have specific information that bothers me the most like upgraded chassis and so on... That's what gets to me...it doesn't just speculate but dares to gives specific changes... 2014 and maybe the latter part of 2013 have been too full of unreliable rumors partly cause of Intel's delay I guess but still. I guess that we'll probably know something more accurate by September though, hopefully!

They could be just stock piling parts or part manufacturing a model so that when broadwell is delivered they can just plop them on the boards and have months of stock readying in a matter of weeks to avoid shortages.

Yes what I think too also.

Good for Apple, sucks for us who want to buy a new machine.

I have a MBA that I'm selling, but would love a retina screen in a macbook air.

If I had to choose between rMBA and rMBP I'd chose the air as the portability is a deal breaker. If I need power I have access to a 64 core, 0.5TB RAM sever to number crunch.

You are passing by the gorgeous display of the mbp too easily I feel

Maybe, but I doubt it. Apple doesn't really need to stockpile like they do with iPhones.

That's what I'm saying. I'd choose a rMBA over rMBP but if the Air is not retina, I'll go for the rMBP.

I'd be in the same boat. It's the retina screen that's the deciding factor for me.

If I could have the portability of the 13" MBA with smaller bezels and a retina screen, I'd be all for that more so than the Pro, to be honest.

do you guys think there will be any updates before broadwell? what does broad wellbring?

Sorry for my ignorance!

For gods sake let's hope they don't gimp the saturation/contrast of the rMBA like they did with the Retina iPad mini, in comparison to the iPad Air. Gamut Gate 3.0

Intel Launches New Core i5, i7 Haswell Processors Possibly Slated for Retina MacBook Pro Refresh

Intel yesterday launched new Haswell processors designed for high-end notebooks, which could be slated for use in an upcoming refresh of the 13 and 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro models.

As detailed by CPU World, Intel has released three new Core i5 chips and three new Core i7 chips that are all successors to the chips currently used in the 13 and 15-inch Retina MacBook Pros. The new processors provide a modest 200 MHz speed boost over existing Haswell chips.

Hopefully a month rather than a couple of months for such a minor update

Could be. I suppose there'd be no point in waiting for an event for a refresh like this.

It does make some of the current promotions look rather fantastic, though: free Applecare, etc.

I'm probably still going to wait, though.

Wait free apple care you said? Where can I get that? I thought it was only discounted apple care?

Yea screw it. I just bought a brand new top of the line MBPR 15" for $1900 off craigslist. Lots of good deals out now rather than waiting

Grr. All these "rumours" are making me nervous. My 2009 17" MBP wants to retire (it's choking like hell) and I'm looking to buy a new rMPB while on my trip to the US during early September.

But given past release dates, I may miss the window of buying an updated rMBP. Based on some impressions here though, it seems the current high-end 15" is speedy enough...

... but for someone who dabbles in a lot of graphic design & image manipulation, any speed boost is important! ARGH! To buy or not to buy?

;__;

No matter if you get the current model, or an updated model, it'll be a significant upgrade to what you have now.

Oh definitely! I'm just hoping Haswell & Broadwell aren't too drastically different (besides their speeds and power efficiency), that way I can buy the current 15" with no regrets. That, and I'm hoping to be able to edit photos with no hiccups-... alright I'll admit it, I'm also hoping to be able to play some current games on at least high settings, on a stable 30fps! ;P

I've been burnt by Apple with the iPad 1 before. 6 weeks after I bought the iPad 1, iPad 2 comes out with them new-fandangled cameras and all! >_<
