You disagree? You don't think that buying in bulk gets them cheaper prices? It's the way things work.

Of course I do, but Apple will still sell it for what it's worth, attempting to make the highest profit.

We all know Apple :)

When the rMBP came out the prices were reasonable, at least I thought so. And then next year they became even better. I think the price increase won't be nearly as bad as you think.

Well, that is not what happened with SSDs, no ? :) insanely overpriced upgrades.

4K display's different than Apple Retina marketing hype.

I appreciate your optimism and can do nothing but cross my fingers.

Apple has always charged heaps for upgrades though, no? So naturally SSDs would be exorbitant. But displays are not really so much an upgrade.

It will be interesting to see what Apple does. They've got to make a 21.5 inch display, 27 inch iMac and 27 inch TBD display all "Retina" at some point. I'm sure they'll keep on the "standard" models like they did with the rMBP, until the price drops down lower. But it can't be too much higher otherwise no one will buy them.

I'm waiting for retina iMac. Who is with me?

I don't need an iMac, but I always like the design and I'll definitely buy one with retina display just to use it as a media center.

The question is not IF.. it is WHEN.

I'm not alone in this, right?

So... 2014... Feb, Jun or Sep-Oct-Nov?

You will be waiting for a long time then :)

That's retail, not wholesale. And they can only charge that because it's one of the first few 4k displays to be released. Who knows the profit on each one?

Apple would buy wholesale. And they would get a discount for purchasing large quantities.

I agree and hope it's true. In couple of years the prices will be at least half of the current. Like all the new things this is expensive at the very beginning..
