iMac Pro lol

When you think they couldn't possibly disappoint you more, they manage to find the worst possible product.

LOL 5K for a disposable computer.

I guess they will sell 10-15 of these 5,000 dollar iMacs.

This means no Mac Pro towers/standalone computers in the future. Looks like Apple has abandoned the standalone systems. Its either an iMac or a laptop.

Well, maybe the mMP now need to get dual socket to be way more powerful than a freaking iMac

Yep, at $5K and 18 cores, I'm not sure we'll see a Mac Pro much, if at all, below that.

And holy hell, that price tag. I'm curious what processor the base will be, the $1000, 10 core 7900X? So each processor bump is probably going to cost you $400-$500. Making the 18 core, if no other upgrades, a $7K computer?

Apple have already confirmed a new Mac Pro is coming next year. And if the iMac Pro is this powerful, consider what kind of beast the Mac Pro will need to be.

I was wondering that, but given how they said this new iMac Pro will be the most powerful mac ever - I wonder if this is THE new Mac 'Pro' ....

This is probably the Mac Pro they were talking about. Think about it. It makes sense that Apple wants to sell two formats. All in one computers or laptops and no stand alone computers. Margins are significantly higher on the all in one systems.

Noone of you think about the price of 8 core Xeon computer?

All of Intel Xeon CPUs will have much higher price than their HEDT parts. The same dies, with different name, but higher price margin.

Great logic, Apple will never ever make a more powerful computer in the future, this is the end, this is the mother of all computer in its final form...

I will be replacing my 2012 Mac Mini with the new 27inch iMac since I want a 27inch monitor and at a starting price of 1800 makes it a realistic purchase. It will help declutter my desk.

No, Apple have said that they are working on a new Mac Pro, this announcement changes nothing for the Mac Pro

This is almost certainly what they were referring to. Cant imagine they will release a traditional Mac Pro now.

Actually If you think about it. iMac Pro can be what Mac Pro 6.1 was supposed to be. Next gen Mac Pro, can really be modular...

No it isn't. Apple said that a new Mac Pro was coming in 2018 and that there would be an iMac Pro in late 2017.

Judging by the popularity of the iMac and calls for more power, the iMac Pro is a quick, down and dirty answer to many of the issues.
Exactly.

On a side not. Radeon Vega appears to have 1350 MHz core clock on the iMac.

Apple is so tone deaf.

iMac Pro, the product no one asked for.

Plenty of production houses use iMacs. South Park Studios makes each episode on them, for example.

Then there is all the scientific disciplines that use iMacs.

The iMac Pro is going to be very important to them.

That price though... wow. I'm just not sure bundling a monitor with an 10-18 core computer is going to have a lot of people jumping to buy the thing.
