Maybe the relevance to the 7.1 is that we don't know what CPU they'll stick into the (now 2018?) mMP. Intel or AMD? A hipster-station or a workstation Whatever it is, the codename will be Walllet-Ripper-5000. I just hope they don't put any of that douchy-looking LED lighting inside the case. –It's the computer equivalent of a dropped-Subaru with a big-ass rear spoiler. Even if it would make it 2-fast and 2-furious. Looking back, I can see why the late 2012 cMP was not transparent.

I can't imagine having the free time to play computer games.

Yes. The middle ground pro market has changed since the late 90's. It's way, way bigger now.

You know, that's one of the more interesting points I've read in a while. A+.

they won't. that kind of stuff is pretty anti-apple design language.

i mean, they recently removed the glowing apple from laptops as that had absolutely no functionality and was only for looks.

apple wants the looks, sure.. but only when the form is functional to some sort of degree.

(that said, if the light was actually aiding, say, a tinkerer in their tinkering.. then maybe a light will be inside.. but point is, the won't add lights simply for the sake of it looking cool (or douchey ;) ))

They won’t, it’s only useful for Hackintoshes, where the sleep state may get funky; or when you need reassurance that the fans are working hard to keep your high-performance bits from going into meltdown; or when the LED numbers signal your dual-boot software failed to boot at process 54; or when your hours-long data-crunching process hasn’t hung. You don’t need douchy-looking LEDs for non-upgradeable units that do mostly email and browsing.

Apple removed the glowing :apple: because: 1) less is more profitable; 2) some media will tape it over if you don’t pay ‘em; 3) you can make the unit even thinner.

Wondering if an (internal) Blu-Ray optical drive will be offered as an option?
I suppose: probably not; but it would still be nice for Apple to acknowledge that some users might prefer an internal SATA optical drive, instead of yet another external USB optical drive.

^^^^Ya know, I never could and still can't understand the need or reason for a BT keyboard:oops: You don't move it around, at least I don't. To me functionality is far more important. I use a wired Logitech G710+ because I like the feel of the Cherry Brown mechanical keys, the back lighting, the G keys, and the overall functionality. Answer to "who needs wired?" is ME! My mouse is wireless however. A Logitech Master Mouse. Luv the programmable keys.

There's always that super busy guy who's got plenty of time to tell you how busy he is. Plenty of time to tell you why they can't do x, y or z... Whilst wasting a bunch of time b.s'ing on some trivial forum. Funny how life works.

I'm a bit worried with the external display that will come with the mMP.
If it's the same panel as in the iMac Pro, and one would assume so, it seems not to be a real 10b panel, but using dithering. If it is it's a let down. Maybe I'm wrong but it implies so on the tech specs

Tried it once, it was laggy. Then it started eating batteries like M&Ms so I confined it to a drawer. Unsure whether I removed the batteries and afraid to look, I’m nailing that drawer shut and junking the desk. As for the little ones that come with iMacs, I have them sprinkled them all over the world suffering the same fate: an environmental nightmare. Incidentally, it’s been 1,903 days since they updated a modular Mac Pro.

Unless Apple commissions their own custom panel (which I cannot see happening), if there are Apple-branded 8K and 5K monitors will be using standard LG panels (as they are the only manufacturer to my knowledge) as found in their own and other (Dell, etc.).

I totally agree that Apple should provide a wired keyboard option on the comming Mac Pro.

Unlike the mouse, the keyboard doesn't need mobility. I can't see why sacrifice the reliability and end up having a keyboard that can run out battery, subject to interference, and most likely more expensive.

In fact, we see quite a few posts here about they can't perform the hockey during boot until change back to a wired keyboard.

For wired keyboard, its reliability is unparalleled. For wiresless, when something goes wrong and you need it to perform a reset (by start up hotkey), it's a bit hit and a miss.

Anyway, as far as I know, the magic keyboard is identical to a wired keyboard when the lightning cable is plugged in. So, I am not too worry about that. Also, it seems my Apple wired keyboard will live longer than me. As long as that keyboard still working, I don't even need to buy a new one.

However, if Apple start selling emoji keyboard (e.g. magic keyboard with emoji bar), I may get one just for fun, I am sure my wife and my kids will love that.

In fact, for professional use. May be someone not even allow to use computer with any wireless connection. In this case, how can a person control the computer properly without a wired keyboard.

IIRC, the magic keyboard can be used wired. Does it work when holding down keys to change startup drives, reset PRAM, etc? If so, I think the magic keyboard is the best of both worlds. If only it was available in black today, though. ;-)

Yes. It works completely as a wired keyboard, including at pre boot, when plugged in.

^^ would buy one with touch bar. Almost to the point of not needing a laptop any more - if iPads could mount Mac filesystems in target disk mode so I could snag files, run disk warrior, etc. - not to mention Apple Remote Desktop ... I'd be a happy camper.

I guess irony can be pretty ironic sometimes.

Well now that the Magic Keyboard can be purchased with a keypad, who needs wired?

They're so magical, so much so, that when you finally need change the batteries, you'll have to toss it.
