I can't wait for this laptop. It's a shame they'll probably forget about the current USB being used; I feel like, at least where I live, USB-C accessories don't seem to be anywhere.

But that will go away soon surely and until then there's adapters.

Magsafe Charging: This one seems a little iffy... On one hand, Apple can just use USB-C for charging. On the other hand, having a dedicated charge port that can charge the battery quickly without taking up a USB-C port sounds nicer.

Would magsafe charge the notebook quicker than usb c? If not then might as well go with usb c as that port will be used for power anyway, and offer an extra connectivity port when not connected to power.

Does anyone know if it would be possible to make reasonably priced adapters for a theoretical Apple 5K TB3 display to work with the current dGPU MBP and Mac Pro, which can drive a 5K display, but require the use of two TB2 ports to do so? I'm assuming of course that Apple will only sell a single cable version of the monitor.

Thunderbolt 3 goes up to 100w. This could exceed the specs of the current Mag-Safe 2 chargers.

The chips Apple needs are not available.
OK, we are still waiting for i5-6267U, i5-6287U and i7-6567U ... Intel talks tomorrow, any chance that they anounce their availability ?

definitely, i let this week pass, and i buy one.

Lenovo just announced the first OLED screen on a laptop the X1 Yoga. With 2560x1440 resolution and 14 inch panel.

Just saying...

The waiting is driving me mad

It's been asked a couple of times already: do you macrumors experts think that the chips will be announced by Intel at CES? I'm interested in the 15' in particular.
If we do not hear anything real, I guess a june release will look more and more likely... don't you think?

Or... how likely is a 15' Broadwell silent update in the next 1-3 months? Maybe before a skylake-redesigned macbook pro coming in autumn? Is this even in the cards?

Looks like many manufacturers are stepping up their game. If Windows wasn't such a dealbreaker, I'd be inclined to try something other than the Macbook.

Windows is definitely the pain in the neck of these superb computers. I wish they were more optimized with linux distributions :(

It is so infuriating to me that PC OEM's keep using the HD520 with skylake. Why, for the love of everything, cant they allow me to upgrade to a HD540.

+1. If I wasn't tied to Mac for app development, I would definitely be looking at some of these other high end laptops like the ones from Razer. Don't get me wrong, I love the smoothness and interface of OSX. However, I'm getting a little tired of having to spend more $$$ on a Mac that looks nice but performs slightly worse than other laptops in the same price range.

Hopefully the new Skylake CPU and integrated GPU live up to their hype. I guess we'll know once Intel has their CES conference.

Well I can't argue about the aesthetics of W10, that's personal taste... but performance and security is really great. Even mac users have reported better performance on their macbooks when running under W10 than under El Captain.

so...
https://www.macrumors.com/2016/01/04/usb-c-monitors-macbook-acer-lenovo/

Monitors with USB-C, I can see this now starting to get mainstream so there will deffently be USB-C on rMBP, also one of the monitors have the bezel free tech thing so that could come with the new rMBP
Yea I think it was Dell who had the exclusive rights to the slimmer bezel technology up until december 2015 so we should se something like that by other vendors, including Apple, soon I think :)

Intel CEO Brian Krzanich will hold a CES keynote tomorrow, January 5th. Iris Pro anyone?

brb getting wallet and popcorn. Sucks that we'll probably have to wait till March to see anything but if the stars align tomorrow, the MacBooks may be available immediately for purchase once they are announced.

What do you guys think the dGPU in the high end 15" Skylake MBP will be? There has not been much discussion on that, and thats the laptop I will be upgrading my mid 2012 one.

Looks like AMD's next gen GPUs are scheduled to launch this year (and they are a massive upgrade from 28-14nm). It would be insane if we get skylake WITH those GPUs, but I doubt the die shrinked GPUs from either AMD or nvidia will be out in time for these updates.

I think it'll be an nvidia solution but theres no technical basis for this. Just Apple's own Tick-Tock like cycle of trading off nvidia and AMD for the MBP. Now, It seems like everything else has AMD (nMP, iMac) but the AMD cards seem to have their own issues.

We will be lucky if we see a dGPU in the next release. Iris Pro 580 now surpasses M370X in compute while saving space and power (two things Apple holds dear) plus being integrated directly with the CPU, enabling a thinner, cooler, and lighter design. Add to all this that Nvidia's Pascal and AMD's Polaris architectures will launch in June, and even then those are initially desktop parts not mobile. Furthermore, Apple has been on a killing spree when it comes to dGPUs, the 21 inch iMac being the latest victim.

The latest updates to the macbook pro have been absolutely ridiculous, and if this new model won't come with

A) Skylake
B) Nvidia Maxwell

At a reasonable price (sub 2100 euro).

I'm just gonna get a secondhand macbook (air) for my traveling and light work and assemble a productivity rig for my heavy duty work and homebrowsing/gaming/studying.

They might as well take the "Pro" out of the MBP if they take out the dGPU. Even the 580 won't be able to hold a light against the next gen dGPUs coming out, and I highly doubt real world performance of the 580 will be anywhere close to the 370X.

Either way I will be quite disappointed if the new high end MBP has comparable graphics to my 4 year old 650M dGPU. The only way they can justify this is if they cut 500 bucks off the high end.
