Honestly I never expected a 1060.

How is the 460 compared to the 1050?

GTX 1050Ti is 30% faster than AMD RX 460
GTX 1050 is 14% faster than AMD RX 460

GTX 1050 = 970M roughly
RX 460 is a step below.

GPU is most likely the AMD RX 460M

3D Mark11 Score of the AMD R9 370X (previous generation): 3670
3D Mark11 Score of AMD RX 460: 8597

2.3x (130% faster).
But 70% slower than your Nvidia's mid-range 1060.

The 1060 has the TDP of the 970M, while the rMBP usually use a GPU with a TDP of a 950M. The 1060 is hardly mid-range in the laptop realm. While the 10 series is an engineering marvel, they had to increase the TDPs to do it. Even if the 1060 had the TDP of the old 960M, it'd still be too high for the rMBP.

For photoshop users does the program benefit from the graphics card version of the macbook. Trying to decide if I should get that option or not. Thinking that the graphics card is more toward video and game use. Thanks for help.

You should absolutely max the GPU out!
