I read that it would have the same size as the previous model. Will cases of MBA 2019 thus fit the new 2020 model? I just ordered a Twelve South BookArc, which is apparently not being listed as compatible on Apple’s website (which is weird because it’s a simple vertical stand, compatible with MBA 2019...) I hope it will fit...
Should be fine as there are no design changes.
- The 2020 is actually very slightly thicker at its thickest point (1.56 cm vs. 1.61 cm). Most accessories should be cross-compatible.

The thread start lists 5 possible processors. Have you sorted out which 3 are on offer?
They are custom chips as they all seem to have G7 graphics and to work at frequencies not listed on the previously announced Intel parts.

I'm trying to workout the passmark ratings for the i5 and the i7 variants, but very hard to work out what they are, the closest I can find for the i5 is the Intel Core i5-1035G4, which is rated 1.1-3.7ghz. Any idea if that is close enough +/- 10% say for evaluation vs my current laptop? Any idea of the i7 variant?

I also waited for the 2020 Air. Mostly for the improved keyboard but all the other improvements are quite nice as well. Ordered the i5 with 16GB RAM, base storage. Should be quite an upgrade from my 2010 MBP!

It may be those chips. From the i7:
Configurable TDP-up Frequency: 1.30 GHz

Configurable TDP-up: 12 W

Implying that they bumped up the TDP from default.
Custom is possible too since the 2018/2019 Air did (8210Y), but compare the 8210Y with the 8200Y, and they're very similar. So those chips may be a good baseline.

Are you sure? Base clock speeds don't match, I'm suspecting custom Intel CPUs
Look at the configurable base clocks, Apple might be running the i5 and i7 at 12W rather than 9W and then it matches what Apple are saying. So not so much 'custom' but tuned to Apple's requirements.

Any idea how the i5 or i7 would compare to a 2019 MBP 2.4Ghz i5? I'm thinking of possibly returning this used one if the performance won't be a huge diff.

Don't really know with that much accuracy until review units are sent out and tested. We can speculate in broad strokes that both chips are quad core, likely to be running at similar TDPs (12W vs 15W) which implies similar CPU performance, and also that the Ice Lake graphics should be better, but I can't guarantee, and especially not quantify any of that.

If these CPUs are correct, the passmark CPU scores looks pretty good!!

I'm ready to buy, the only thing, should I go with the i5 or i7? Do you guys think it'll make a huge difference in terms of speed or power? I was thinking 16GB/i5 or i7/512GB

- Most likely not a huge difference, no.
For the smaller CPU upgrades on Mac notebooks (such as this i5 to i7), it's almost always the case that the percentage increase in price is greater than the percentage increase in performance (looking at Geekbech scores).

^ Thanks guys. I do think the extra $150 isn't worth it. I'll stay with the i5. The only reason was in terms of comparison to my 13" 2014 MBP, which also has an i5; but isn't quad-core.

Seems to be these (note the N in the model numbers):

i3: 1000NG4
i5: 1030NG7
i7: 1060NG7

Where G7 may imply 64EUs for graphics, and G4 at 48EUs (pic source)

I ordered the i5/16GB/256GB and am returning this 2019 MBP.
I was planning to buy 2019 MBP. Now I‘m in the market for the new air with exact same configuration. Why are you returning the MBP? Is it the performance or keyboard?

could be a variety of reasons but it comes down to individual needs from price, not needing the power of a pro, not needing the touchbar and obviously the keyboard

im struggling as to why anyone would even get a 13mbp when the air looks exactly the same minus the obvious missing touchbar and power. this leads me to believe that the current 13inch will jump to 14inch and the air will be the sole 13inch'

i personally use a 2019 13'mbp. i love it, no issues with the keyboard and i have no reason to upgrade but the 2020 air is finally a solid device for people who dont do "pro" task. I love how apple finally dropped the 128gb base storage and didnt increase the price. what world am i living in? Apple is making moves tailored to the customer

It's mostly the keyboard. It would be a downgrade CPU wise, but I would be getting the 16GB option, which I don't have on this MBP and I think would level things out performance wise? I don't use the touchbar at all and find it pretty pointless.

Not sure if ill be trading in my nTB 2016 base or not, but just pulled the trigger on a quad core 13" MBA Space Grey. 16gb was quite tempting but I may get another machine in the next couple years, or sooner, don't want to spend a ton for the new-old keyboard and hate the $200 upcharge.

...will be $600 out of pocket after tax if I do trade in my old laptop which aint bad at all. And keeps my iPhone X traded gift card unused + still on standby for another iPhone later this year possibly :)
