Not with how long it takes to wake from sleep it's not.

I'm writing this with my 2.6 rMBP. Turns on instantly as the lid is opened. I mean not 1 sec or 2 seconds. Instant like flipping the lid off the iPad. Definitely not a rMBP general problem. Get it checked out at the Genius Bar.

Well guys I took it to the genius bar and it woke up instantly the whole time I was there, but of course when I got home it started to act up again. I think it may be me switching from Windows back to OSX. So instead of just restarting, now I am going to fully shut the computer down and then turn it back on. I disabled deep sleep, and will see if that has any effect on the sleep time. I am just a bit disappointed that after spending 1999$ on this MBP it takes this long to wake up, when none of my other macs have ever had this sort of problem.

So what is different about your home setup than at the Apple store? Are you plugged into any peripherals?

Isn't hibernation something else? E.g where you see a faded shot of the desktop with the progress bar loading until it snaps into life? or was that only in Snow Leopard....?

If Lion still does that then this machine isn't entering hibernation.

Not hibernation, more of a lower-power standby mode. Still, setting hibernatemode=0 (i.e. disabling deep sleep) also eliminates the slow wake-up.

Same complaints were made about the 2011 Macbook Air .

I thought that grey screen loading bar was resuming from hibernation too. It only happens when my laptop has turned off after reaching critical battery.

That's the worst - when you know there's a problem but the device behaves perfectly in front of technicians. Apple have trained these sneaky devices well!

My 2011 MBA does the same thing. Sometimes quick, sometimes 15-20 seconds. Not sure what the problem is.

Somebody said something important and we missed it.

What was it... oh - "Windows"

Let's take Windows out of the equation... can we get rid of the problem if we test it without using Windows?

I cannot get rid of windows until developers all start making PC games that work on well on Mac. Believe me I would throw windows out if I could. I hate the OS, but have to put up with it for the light pc gaming I do indulge in.

Nope nothing different, other then not booting into windows while at the Apple store.

I'm not suggesting getting rid of windows, I'm asking if you can replicate the slow sleep recovery when you are not using windows. Just conduct an experiment to see if windows is causing the problem.

Cheers...

Just my 10c

I had a similar problem , found out it was pendant on the internet ... Dropbox and a couple of other apps were woken up when I open the lid.. and slowed down the whole WAKE up ... kind like on a windows box with startup items.

BAD "internet" ... slow wake
Fast "Internet" ... Quick Wake..

I even verified this by getting close to my Airport Express ... good signal .... fast wake
went to where I could just about connect ... (Switched of AP.. and back on ... 1 Seg, Waited for IP, closed the lid .. wait a min ) .... slow wake

Disabled Airport = NO internet = fast wake

YMMV ...

It should be extremely fast. Maybe two seconds fast. I'd restart without anything attached or any extras running to see if it continues. Maybe create a bare-bones account and boot into it to see if the problem continues there.

Edit: in regard to an earlier reply, Dropbox and an active Wifi connection have done nothing to noticeably slow waking from sleep on my RMBP. I do have a fast and reliable connection, though.
