Yea, the same way a lot of us stood in line at an Apple Store and paid for one before touching it.....lol
Cute. Snarky. And totally disconnected from the reality.

You're implying that people who pre-order Apple stuff from Apple, sight unseen, are the same demographic as those who might buy one they can see locked up behind glass but aren't allowed to hold at their local WalMart?

Ummmmmm Yes....

Yes.....

Have either of you paid attention to a "Wal-Mart Interactive Display" lately? Interactive means the guy behind the counter has the key for the glass. Can't recall the last time I saw a playable game system at my local walmarts.

I think he's referring to the fact that, at Walmart, "interactive display" means a display that you can see. Assuming the display itself hasn't been vandalized.

That's it. I have to ask it. Why are people being dumb?

Interactive Display =/= Video Demo. The Interactive display will be the exact same as the iPhones on display stands that they currently have. Out in the open for anyone walking by to play with, and yes, guess what, there's preloaded games on those.

By some people's definition of an Interactive Display, the iPad will be unboxed and behind glass, so that if you want to try it, you need to ask? Have you ever stepped into a Walmart? Wow.

Interactive has sure changed in meaning. I never knew it meant "under glass". So does that mean my roast duck is interactive?

...Shock rock never got so hard.

Yes, I have stepped into a Wal Mart - my appologies. Instead of the bit you quoted, I should of said this :

Which is exactly what the other poster you quoted, JAT, said. We are going by our experiences at Wal-Mart which have taught us that to Wal-Mart, interactive does indeed mean under glass.

Now, I will admit I don't ever recall a local Wal-Mart having an iPhone on display - maybe for these they have a real interactive display. For now, at least, they might.

What can I say? My best Wal Mart experiences are all summed up with "I left not feeling offended" - which for any place I've been into more than twice is pretty pathetic. Coincidently, my expectations of Wal-Mart are similar. Hell, they don't even respect release date contracts or try to promote items properly they have exclusive deals with.

Both local Walmarts around me have the same setup regarding their Apple gadgets, and most I have been to have had the same as well.

1) There's an acrylic iPod display case, that came with last year's Nanos, and has still not been updated to contain any of the three new models released in September.
2) There's an iPhone display area, which has two working iPhones you can play with, and a collection of fun take-home pamphlets from AT&T all about it. Both the display iPhones and the pamphlets are the 3GS, but the display sign behind the demos is for the iPhone 4.

When I hear Interactive Display, I think of #2 as opposed to #1. There's nothing Interactive about an acrylic display case beyond the eyes, or maybe smell, if you really try.

Hell, I could be 100% wrong, and Walmart could very well stick it behind a case. One of our stores moved their Cell Phone section up in the front of the store where the other little business and Customer Service get stuck. (iPhones remain back in electronics) There's a whole empty section of display case where they could go now... We'll see.

Strange logic. The people who preordered a product sight unseen from Apple and now own that product will be rebuying that same product from WalMart... Okaaaaaay! :p

Will they also be lining up around the block like they do at Apple stores, for a product they can't hold or even touch?

I don't dispute your experiences, but don't paint everything with such broad strokes. My local Wal-Mart is a great store, they respect release dates, it is clean and well stocked, and the clientele shopping there reflects the demographic of the entire area (which is to say, I live in a fairly nice neighborhood). Sure, I could name a few other Wal-Mart locations in the city that have ... sketchier clientele ... and that reflects in how the store is run too, but they're not all bad by default.

Wal Mart World Domination

And this occurrence surprises you? Wal mart will eventually take over the world, I watch movies and they don't lie!
