I think for me, the issue is its like a text message, but read out loud if you want it or not.

You would use it in the instance when you don't want to call someone. For example, my colleague may be in the datacentre and I'll just ping him a voice "Can you check the lights on server XXXX", he'll say "yep" then come back 2 mins later "all good" or something. Or you could be in the car and say to the Wife "I'm outside the shop", "ok" she can reply. You could do with a text or call, but the walkie talkie is probably quicker and more convenient (if it works lol). Those are just a couple of examples. Not for everyone, but useful.

I remember back in about 2001 when SMS first came about, people saying the same thing - why would you send a text message when you could just call.

Yeah, I guess there are specific usage like that but putting it as part of the wider features seems a bit overkill to me.

Exactly! Plus I’ve got privacy concerns because people will be able to hear what the other person is saying without knowing where you are.

Our daugher wanted to walkie talkie to mum while she walked home. She starts singing and then mum had to tell her to stop as she was in a meeting and forgot to set it away. Yes, you can set it to away or whatever but then you have to check these things before you act or try and fail and try something else. Thats why I'm sticking with text. Plus, with the watch its just there anyway on your wrist.

Theater mode shuts off Walkie Talkie. As with anything that makes noise, phone, watch, you just have to be cognizant of the volume state it’s in before an event where silencing your electronics is necessary.

If anyone here was around for the craze of Nextel, this isn’t much different. If privacy is of utmost importance, then this is definitely not for you. Personally, I don’t care if anyone hears my wife when she tells me to grab a box of Honey Smacks while I’m in the cereal aisle and she’s grabbing the TP in the paper goods aisle lol.
