Walmart is allowed to sell them at midnight, before even apple releases them? I remember reading somewhere that walmart doesn't sell them til 8am. That sounds more plausible.

Don't regret anything....as long as you can prove the price difference apple will price match their own products. I always by my items at best buy because I like their rewards program and they price match as well. My iPhones....those I only go to apple on launch day every year.

How does the rewards work if I purchase the Air using the rewards zone, would I get any cash back for say a future video game purchase?

For the ipad 3 release, I got mine at midnight at walmart. Maybe that was at the store's discretion, I don't know. The iPads could not be sold before midnight. The clerk tried and it wouldn't ring up. At midnight plus a few seconds (clock on the POS register) the sales of their entire stock worked as each of us bought them out.

Whether you find it "plausible" is up to you. Look back through other threads and you'll see that it is not unusual for walmart to do their own thing on release days. I don't know about the 4 release, and I don't know about this release.

It is my intention to try to get the air at midnight at walmart, hoping they will have the tmobile version. If not, I may just go back to bed and show up at my local target at 6am and use my 5% discount when they open.

I bought a 64gb cellular ipad 3 at walmart last year. It was me and like 3 other people there at midnight and they were happy to sell it. I arrived literally at midnight.

They didn't have a big supply, but has most options available.

Not cash, but you'd get points. Every 250 points equals a 5.00 coupon good to use on any item in best buy. So if you bought the lowest model iPad air (499.99) you'd get 500 points that Equals 10.00 in coupons. And if you're a elite plus member like myself (requires you to spend 2500.00 a year) you get even more points per purchase!! Plus many other benefits. I'm sure BB's website explains in better detail.

I'm starting to regret asking for Apple gift cards for Christmas and my Birthday over the past year. I've been hoarding them for a while because I knew there would be a redesign this year so I kept holding out. With no preorders + these deals at retailers I'm feeling a little bit screwed. I should have at least asked for Amazon cards so that I could skip paying sales tax. I'm dumb. :(
You're talking penny's on the dollar. Don't be so hard on yourself. You already have a RMBP, EOS 7D and 64 GB ip5, I'm sure you can afford those $30.

I have those things because in addition to being a web and graphic designer for my day job, I'm also a freelance designer and photographer on the weekend and evenings and some of those tools I use every day for work. While my wife and I live comfortably, we do so because we're good with money. All these little savings add up. If I'm getting a 128GB Verizon Mini Retina, the tax will be about $42 where I live. We also have our first child coming in February so I've been pinching pennies for sure! Want to have a good amount in savings in case there are issues. I've been saving (in a ceramic shark bank that I made) for this iPad nearly since I got my iPad 2 back in 2011 because I don't yet consider it a necessary expense—and I was able to sell my iPad 2 the other day for $300 which is pretty sweet. Though I'm hoping to integrate the new iPad into my photography workflow. 128GB should be enough for that coupled with Adobe currently working on a version of Lightroom for iPad that supposedly syncs photos back to my mac at home once I get a WIFI connection. I'm not going to upload 50GB of RAW photos over Verizon haha. Since I'm mostly set on getting a Retina Mini, I think I'm going to load it up with my games and perhaps have enough room to go down in size for my iPhone 6 by removing most of my entertainment. Or at least stay at 64GB if the base goes up to 32GB. Now if I could just get my work to buy me an iPad. There have been talks about getting them just for our team as we are the communications team for the college and are always running around campus like mad men and women—and they prefer we don't use our own equipment because that is just lame for your work to expect that if you really need it.

I remember Apple's holiday sale last year and I'm kind of considering waiting for that to get my iPad Air. I had originally bought the 32GB Wifi iPad last year and then over a month later they announced the sale. So I returned that and paid $50 more for a 64GB. I basically saved on tax.

Not bad if I can't get it at Walmart I'll try here at Best buy. Is this only for online purchases though when signed into your rewards account? Can I go into the store and give them my email so it records the purchase as I don't have a club card or anything?

Thanks for the heads up

Is there anywhere where it's advertised for 479.99? I need to find it advertised so BB can price match.

Not sure if they have actually run an Ad - yet. But, there are a few hundred press release/news article about it.

Maybe they will run an ad on Thur or Friday?

So, BB does price matching. Anyone else, like ATT Store, T-Mobile store, etc.

Well...I'm going to wait outside in front of BB to get it. I'll have BB price match Walmart if it's cheaper there. If you're a best buy rewards member it's for online or in store purchases. Singing up for their rewards program takes only a few minutes online or even less time in store. Once you're a member they'll ask you at the store (when making a purchase) "what's the phone number assigned to your rewards account?" They'll pull up your info that way. Online they'll ask you to sign in via email and password. If you've got a smart phone you can download the BB app and all of your coupons, points, purchase history will be within the app.
Hope that helps...

What was their holiday sale pricing?

Anyone know if Walmart does easy returns of opened iPads [if I simply don't like the iPad] without a restocking fee?

I don't know about cellular stores. Walmart,BB,Target,Apple,FRYS electronics (those are in my area) they all price match. BB and FRYS will even match amazon and other certain online retailers. Also I need a Ad or it to show on walmart's website. That's the only way BB will price match. If they can verify the price difference. :)

When Apple had their Black Friday sale last year, I picked up a 16gb White WiFi only iPad 4 and a Blue Smart Case. Between both items, I saved $47 and change. Definitely worth waiting for in my opinion. I'm gonna stick it out and pick up 2 iPad Air this year.

Yep, we need to get that Walmart Ad.

That does help, so it goes by phone number. I just opened a rewards account last week as I got PS+ discounted.

I'm waiting for an ad listing from Walmart so I can call my local one to see if I can purchase it at midnight or in the AM also to see if there will be 32GBs available. If all else fails Best Buy it is then Apple.

I don't remember but I paid $700 for the iPad 64GB so it knocked off the $50-60 tax I would have paid. So their Black Friday/Holiday sale is actually good
