Good luck with that!

Merchant Customer Exchange sounds old and ugly. No one has time for stupid names like that.

Agreed. In this day and age... you would think a major retailer would at least work in conjunction with Paypal, Google, or Apple Pay.

Noone will know what a Merchant Customer Exhange app is...

My guess is once they see how successful :apple: Pay is elsewhere they will reverse this decision. I know if I only had my iPhone on me and needed to stop to get some toilet paper, pens, and carrots I would go to Target because they accept :apple: Pay - meaning lost wallet share for Walmart.

Yeah, I'd imagine that this could be considered the newest format war.

Best Buy is teetering on the edge of extinction you'd figure they'd do everything they can to make their costumers er... customer happy...

But Best Buy is a great place to do research on products you can get cheaper online. And get a cold Coca-Cola or Monster while you are there.

I guess best but is still the best technology gallery is the world..... You go there just to see what you will buy with your iPhone few minutes later .....a lot cheaper

So Target is straddling the fence? They were actually featured in the Keynote for taking ApplePay in their app for online ordering, but they won't enable it in the stores?

And WalMart and BestBuy say they will implement a system which can be used on older hardware....but then it's not going to use NFC or TouchID, so it will be less secure.

Is ApplePay different from accepting NFC payments? That is if a retailer is equipped and accepting NFC Payments, either from GoogleWallet or from an NFC enabled credit card, can they opt out of ApplePay only? I thought Apple said the payments would be accepted anywhere that has the hand with card waving above the reader symbol.

This will influence whether I go to wal-mart or not. Recently I only went because they offered the service where I could check out on my phone and not stand in line forever. This would be a big reason to shop at Walmart again. especially if they had a special line for it, Apple Pay only line. I'm tired of going through the 15 items or less line and someone whipping out a check book.

Looking forward to getting my 64GB in Space Gray next week and just crossed off Walmart on my list of places to shop.

Exactly, I'd not know that app even exist.

do frequent shoppers at walmart have iPhones?
I would imagine that they probably still use Nokia refrigerator/phones.

I understand - Wal-Mart has been trying to be a bank themselves. They like to control everything. But I think they will get on board eventually. As for BestBuy, I haven't been there for years. You can get everything electronic online.

I don't shop at either one, so oh well. Target is a bigger concern for me since the article said they belong to the same group, but I guess time will tell. And no, that wasn't a pun.

It actually wouldn't shock me if target turned away from :apple:Pay.

Something that would have rendered their enormous credit card leak virtually useless (well at least for people using Apple's system). I don't see why this merchant group couldn't support both systems unless they realize their version is vastly inferior.

Lack of customer tracking data?

My guess is walmart doesn't want to lose their massive customer data tracking capabilities.

If the merchant can not see the customer name and only a temporary credit card number (with apple pay), they will lose out on a lot of customer data. Big stores don't want these type of technology gathering steam. They would rather keep the data along with the privacy/hacking risk.

Just got a new Amex card after it had been breached by some merchant recently and it has the chip. Now I just wish there was a credit account that ONLY worked with chip & pin, that it won't work anywhere else so it can't be stolen.

Their loss.

Exactly. I remember when Best Buy sold only PCs, and were pretty anti-Apple... until everyone wanted Apple products, so their hand was forced ant they started selling Apple, begrudgingly.

Same thing is happening with Apple pay.

I never purchase from Best Buy.

I do not shop at either of these store and I now have less incentive to do so. Once Apple Pay is up and working, I will attempt to only shop at store that support it. Let's see if that will help establish the standard. Who's with me?
