So you are saying everyone should pay $400 for the 16GB iPhone SE? Rather than $300 with interest free financing? Even though you can pay off the full balance at anytime. You keep making financial decisions based on emotion. I'm sure that will work out in the long run.

These days public corps are run by a bunch of bean counters who's job is to make the books look the best they can so they can satisfy what we call the legal gambling casino aka Wall Street stock markets.

It use to be instant discount up front. then we moved to rebates which are mailed in 4 weeks. then 8 weeks. Then 12 weeks. Some are now 12-16 weeks. Now we introduce these discounts which are a smoke screen because you get paid a visa prepaid card which can't be used as pure cash but instead like a debit card. You don't even get these now you get the discount thru carrier billing cycle refunds. Which now can take up to 3 billing cycles.

These are all fake ass rebates and discounts because if it takes a whole 3 months or longer to receive your initial discount you really are paying up front for everything. These carrier's just want their books to look good every quarter as in no loss in paying out to anyone for anything.

this entire world is full of deceit. My motto is if you can pay cash for something like a phone, pay for it in FULL. Do not do any EIP, installment plans, etc. You can't afford the phone to begin with unless you have the cash up front. It's just ridiculous your can't save enough for this device you'd have to do some form of loan payment plan.

American finance education - only for corporate suit and tie business scam-men and Wall Street rapists. People really need to educate themselves on how to not f-themselves over in debt especially over something like a phone.

Starting today, Walmart is offering $100 off its selection of Apple iPhones, including the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, and newly released iPhone SE, making the already affordable device available at an even lower price point.

The discount applies to iPhones purchased through AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint and is available on devices bought using a monthly installment plan. The discounted price will be reflected through each customer's cell phone bill, with the monthly payments lowered by an appropriate amount.

Customers who want to purchase an iPhone eligible for the discount will need to do so in store, as AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint iPhones are not sold online. Walmart plans to offer the $100 off deal through the end of June.

In other deal news, Belkin.com is offering a 25 percent discount on all of its products through the end of the day with the promo code IMNOFOOL, and Best Buy is offering solid discounts on the 12-inch Retina MacBook, MacBook Air, and Retina MacBook Pro dropping prices by up to $300.

For a full list of this week's deals and discounts, make sure to check out our dedicated deals roundup, which is updated on a daily basis with new accessories, significant deals, and app discounts. It also contains a price list for all of Apple's major products and is an excellent resource for finding the best deal on a Mac or iPad.

I don't think one can pay the balance off at anytime. I thought the whole point was to lock people into long term by making them pay monthly.

Can you pay it off immediately and still get the discount though?

With the payment plans from the carriers you usually can. I'm not sure about this version of it though.

So instead of paying $16.63 per month for the device... you'll only be paying $12.46 per month.

That's a savings of $4.17 per month.

While it is a discount overall... that sounds a little less sexy than the way the headline portrays it.

I don't know about this plan specifically, but an interest free EIP is a smart thing to do if you know finance.

If you were already going to buy it at $16 anyway the savings are sexy. Or you can wait for bestbuy to offer it free on contract.

True.

I was just saying "$100 discount" sounds a lot different that "$4 off per month"

Yes... you are saving $100... but at the rate of $4 a month spread over 24 months.

Semantics :)

I need to upgrade a line so this looked like a decent deal. Did a little research and Target stores are offering a $200 target gift card to those upgrading to a 6s on any carriers installment plan. More money in your pocket, Plus I can pay it off whenever and keep the entire gift card. This might be localized to my area so your miles may vary but I thought I would mention for any who plan on upgrading.

Do you know if they're offering that deal for the iPhone SE?

True. It won't make you run out and buy it if you were not already in the market for a phone. Two weeks ago I was using an iPhone 6 128gb. Then I saw a deal at bestbuy, $100 for a Verizon 64gb 6s on a two year contract. Sold my 6 and jumped on the deal. After my first month I will cancel, pay ETF and move to a $10 a month prepaid plan. Total cost of 64gb iPhone 6s, $590.

I called six area Walmarts (western NC) before going to a store (dread that). None had the SE and only two of the store department persons I spoke with had any idea what the product and promotion was, none could tell me when/if they would receive inventory.

I just got off the phone with a local Walmart. They said they probably won't get the SE for a while because they don't sell enough new contracts to warrant immediate new stock. He was most likely just talking out of his a$$ though.

I called three Walmarts (south western PA) and none of them were aware of this promotion. They all said the deal on the SE was $0.98 + $14.50/month which adds to $349. They also said the full retail price is $449 not $399 so it was $100 off. Does anyone know why this is the case?

Does anyone know if you have to go to a mobile share plan to get the rebate (billing credit) on ATT? I am Next eligible but don't want / need mobile share.

Having visited and called several Walmarts in the DC/Baltimore area I can give you my miserable experience.. No Walmart associate even knows of the deal and the 16 GB SE is $448 and the 64 GB SE is $548. So, $100 off is really just $50 off. Of course, try finding a Walmart that even carries the 64 GB SE...IMPOSSIBLE. I really hope the media/internet calls Walmart out or perhaps verifies deals with the retailer/customers before posting such articles.

Same experience here in New Hampshire. If you go back and look at the original CNN Money article it was updated on April 13 with this from Walmart...

"We were so excited to help our customers save money on the Apple iPhones and Samsung Smartphones that we got a little ahead of ourselves and had a mix-up with notifying our store associates in stores," the statement says. " We apologize for the confusion, and you can rest assured that these deals are available to customers."
