I’m surprised Apple is sooo high! It’s an interesting feat!! Apple sells just one category, electronics, and not a lot of variety in that either.

Don't forget Walmart acquired Jet.com and Flipkart which shows how serious their push into online retail is.

Not surprised that Macrumors members make everything about themselves, but that's to be expected

Walmart has gotten serious about changing for the future. Pushing online and getting into grocery delivery. They won't concede to Amazon or become the next Sears.

I'm glad to see Walmart providing competition to Amazombie.

Actually Gil Amelio did a lot to save Apple. He had to deal with a lot more adverse conditions than Tim Cook has as CEO.

Gil Amelio saved Apple by being smart enough to "step aside" in favor of SJ.

In his autobiography, Gil wrote that he knew (as soon as he brought Steve back to Apple) that Steve Jobs would never ever "share power" with anyone else. And of course, he knew that only SJ could have saved Apple back in the late 90s.

So, Apple’s retail that sell almost exclusively Products they make and accessories for those products is being compared to stores that sell Everything including Apple’s products? This makes no sense at all. The fact that they are even in the on the list is insane. That means If they became a regular retailer these companies would have no shot.

It's easier to sell a lot when you sell stuff from $.99 and up compared to the price of what Apple sells.

Home Depot outsells Target online?...

Unbelievable. Right?

HD has the worst inventory search engine. Even when I know they carry a specific product, it’s like throwing dice. The results filters are often useless (who searches wrenches by color?). The product description details are nonsensical or outright wrong (the product dimensions are the package size).

Their director of e-commerce should be replaced by the second most clueless person on the planet.

Are you telling me that Apple that sells only Apple related stuff was doing better than Walmart which sells everything including Apple related stuff?!

So are you saying Apple is a niche player?
I think the point is like Dell and other Apple competitors that actually make products it doesn’t make sense to compare a company store that sells only their products and accessories to a retail store that sells their products and ever other industry as well. In fact it’s kind of sad that Apple was every in the top 10 just selling their own stuff.

Yeah, pretty absurd to compare unit sales of anything sold by Apple to unit sales of anything sold by Amazon or Walmart.

Tim Cook’s Apple is falling behind.
Falling behind two companies who sell just about everything humans make.

Especially considering Apple’s products are top sellers at both of these retailers. So, comparing insane at best. Then you consider that Walmart or Amazon selling more means more money for Apple too. I guess that’s why Amazon’s Net Income on 177 Billion in revenue was only 3 Billion while Apple’s net income on 229 Billion was 48 Billion. Walmart had a net income of 9.8 Billion on 508 Billion in Revenue. But Apple is Doomed. We buy their stuff because we like it and feel it’s worth it, while their haters say it’s over priced while singing the praises of Google, Microsoft, and Samsung who copy Apple’s highend devices and have similar and even higher prices for less tech. I have yet to hear these comments Aimed at these companies when they release a competing device a few months later at the same or higher price.

So are you saying Apple is a niche player?

Yes. If you look at the full catalog on everything on apple.com and compare it to everything on amazon.com, Apple is CLEARLY fulfilling a niche in consumer commerce. People buy a hell of a lot more in their lives than an annual smartphone and a laptop every quadrennium. The fact that Apple is in the top 20 is amazing, considering how many other enormous regional superstores are out there as well.

It is quite an achievement. I just hope they don't try to better it with even higher prices.

I'd agree with that

I'm more surprised that Apple sells that much online to even be ranked in such a way, given their narrow scope of product as compared to the other names on this list.
