Walmart says they are selling at midnight.

Definitely! Sitting outside an Apple store with other fans is kind-of a party, particularly with everyone waiting to get the latest and greatest, everyone's in a great mood.

I just don't think standing in front of a Walmart, which is probably already open since most are 24 hours, will be anywhere near as enjoyable. And that's not intended as anything disparaging towards Walmart shoppers. I buy my underware and toilet paper there too. It's just won't have the festive atmosphere as at the Apple store. In the past, Apple employees walk around answering questions and handing out refreshments too.
 
i just called walmart superstore here in chicago subborbs, and asked, the lady tried transferring me to electronics..nobody picked up, got her again..she said let me ask manager, she came back on the line and said they will be on sale at 12:01.

i have two 16gb white wifi's coming in mail tomorrow for me and my girl, but now i want either a 32 gb or 64gb..so guess i'll make an attempt to pick one up at midnight.

i just have a suspicion that some ppl on here might be trying to be deceiving so they don't have to compete with as many people at midnight so they just saying 8 am.. 😀
 
About the walmart registers... I've heard of this in the past for the iPad 2, but I don't remember if it was locked for a specific time, just a specific date.

I buy ALL of my iPads from Sam's Club, they ALWAYS have them in stock because no one ever things to check there, I guess? I am not sure why, but I am always able to get stuff that is sold out everywhere else from them every time... plus their return policy is no joke!
 
VA walmart

called my local walmart in northern va and they also said midnight. but all they have in stock are the wifi 16gb versions.

i already pre-ordered that model and am looking to get a verizon lte iPad.
 
I called both my local Walmarts in the area and both told me they weren't sure what time or if they were getting them at all on launch date. I guess I will try at midnight tonight and snag one.
 
Hmm sounding like this could actually go through. Interesting. Ill wait a few hours and call mine.

Exactly where I got a Nintendo Wii on their launch date in November 2006. There was a Circuit City right next door with a line of 100+ people, and I was 3rd in line at the Sam's Club, only got there 10 minutes before they opened, and got one of the 6 Wiis they had.

If someone is trying to deceive all parts of America in an attempt to get a leg up on the competition... and they succeed? Then I think they've earned their spot at the front of the line 🙂
 
I wouldn't count on this. I remember for the iPad 2 launch a number of other people got them same idea. Some even were able to get the clerk to get it out of the case, but I think all were foiled at the cash register as the computer wouldn't recognize the inventory numbers yet.

And I cant imagine that woudl be Walmart's official position anyways.

I called both the Wal-Marts in my city and both managers confirmed 12:01 selling of the new iPads. I unfortunately, missed pre-orders so I'm heading to wal-mart tonight. I'm not going to lie, I'm scared someone is going to try and mug me anywhere from the time I leave electronics till I get to my car.
 
Geez people in all threads about this seem to be terrified of wal-mart.

As if there are going to be people in the bushes waiting to jump out on anyone that walks out with a cereal sized box in a bag.
 
I have a Walmart Credit Card, but they don't seem to be offering any good finance offers (1 year no interest for example). At least Best Buy has 18 months no interest.
 
To anyone going to try to get one at midnight, please do not forget to be safe.

Not to scare anyone, but people have and will continue to be robbed anywhere high-end electronics are sold. This can be easily avoided by simply being aware of your surroundings. DO NOT let the RETINA AWESOMENESS distract you when your walking to your car!😛
 
hmmmm. actually may try to pass by a walmart by me at 12 as there is one not far from me.

If there is no line I'm going to pickup a spare.

Jeez. I preordered but need to pick up one more for my dad and was thinking of doing the midnight thing but I've been to my Wal-Mart at midnight before and the type of people looking for "WalMart Supplies" at midnight fit the profile of "iPad Jackers". I guess I'm just going to stick with Best Buy.
 
Do the Walmarts ever have the 3G/4G Ipads or is their inventory always limited to the wifi only models? I called my local supercenter and the gentleman confirmed that they will be on sale at midnight but did not know what models they would have.
