I don't believe it works that way..... Walmart would have to activate the phone for you before they can sell it to you at the subsidized price. Otherwise, what is to stop people from buying as many subsidized phones as they can just by showing the Walmart employee that you qualify ?

And since Walmart does carrt AT&T phones, they have the ability to check your availability.

Just look on AT&T's web site. If it says you're eligible there, then Walmart can give it to you at the subsidized price.

Went to several WM's in erie,pa and none of them got any in stock , spoke with the managers direct sense electronics folks were clueless.. Only possible is tonight when the next truck comes in

Got to my local walmart just before 6am. No one else showed up until almost 7am. Unfortunately, for that person they only had one which I now own. :)

Got to Wal-Mart at about 8:15 or so. Only two guys in line, only one iPhone. Went to the other Wal-Mart, got there at about 8:45. Five people in line, five iPhones (I was the sixth guy). I figured I'd stay in case someone's phone failed to come through... maybe they were only early-upgrade eligible or not eligible at all, or would have some other pitfall. About 10 minutes later, the guy in front of me had to leave for some reason, so I got his place.

I wanted a 32GB, but thought I may as well save some cash and went for 16GB. It saved me some money since I'm only early upgrade eligible, and I've still got my 3GS to sell or keep. Truth be told, I had the 16GB 3G for almost 2 years and was never hurting for space, so I'm quite satisfied.

Here in Central Arkansas i called 3 Walmarts. Store A had 3 phones, Store B had 1, and Store C had 14 phones! I went to store C at 12:30 am to begin waiting in line. 3 people were ahead of me. They issued each of us a ticket and told us to go back home and go to bed. They said if we were back by 8 we would be able to redeem our ticket for an iPhone. Thats exactly what i did. Rolled back up to the Walmart at a quarter to 8, went to the electronic dept where 13 people were waiting and they began helping individuals in the order that they acquired a ticket. So i was in and out pretty quickly with a good nights sleep. Very civilized and organized on Walmart's part. Kudos to them!

I got to my Walmart at 5AM. Only one phone in stock. Timing was perfect because a guy came up about 15 minutes after I go there asking about it. Stood there for 3 hours and they brought it out and activated it. Surprisingly smooth transaction. This was probably the only non-reserve one in our town so I felt really satisfied to get it.

Wal-Mart was smart with pretty much giving no details until the end, because then there were no expectations.
