I know exactly what the OP is talking about, and I would say that 80% of the people that have responded to my ads are complete morons!

When you put the price on top that is how much you are asking for the item.
Then for mine, I will put cash only NO LOW BALLING, I will not go lower than the listed price.

Sure enough I have people low balling.

This is basically what my ad said
"I have a mint conidition iPhone 3G 8GB. It has no scratches on the front, with minor wear and tear on the back, it comes with a case and USB charger.

It is unlocked and jailbroken so you can use it anywhere in the world, also it has an app that lets you get free paid apps (Basically that part of the post is for people who are not so techsavy)

I clearly put that their is on issue, every once in a while the screen will not respond to touch, like maybe 3-4 times a day, the screen will not respond to touch, you simply have to turn it on and off (NOT A FULL RESTART, just hit the power button on top, then the wake button) and it will work fine after that. I also put that it costs about $40-$50 to get either the screen/LCD fixed and that it will still be cheaper than most of the other iPhones on here, and that I used this iPhone as an iPod and now have an EVO so I have no intention of investing more in it. However because it works an is unlocked and jailbroken $140 is a fair price IMO.

7 out of 10 people said how about $100?
then one guy said i will buy ur iPhone is it still available, cuz $140 is a good price, I said ya its still available, did you read about the screen issue?

his response
"No, whats wrong with it"

Most of the people on their don't know how to properly negotiate, or let you know they are really interested.

I don't know if its just me, but I always say

"Hi, I saw your ad, I am very interested in buying your product, if their is nothing wrong with it, and its still available, please let me know when is best for you to meet to sell it. Thanks, please get back ASAP.

But most people say "u still got the iPhone" or "can u come by me to sell it"

Trust me i feel your pain, I was gonna make a thread but you beat me to it. hah

A jailbroken and unlocked 32GB 3GS in mint condition goes for around $450 on eBay. That's about $385ish after eBay/Paypal fees and insurance so maybe about $50 less than that for a 16GB on Craigslist, assuming the OP jailbreaks and unlocks it.

OP, either put up with the lowball offers on Craigslist or sell it on eBay.

Maybe for an OEM unlocked iPhone and even then the prices on ebay fluctuate greatly, especially based on the date and time. For every 1 phone sold in the $400 range, you see 3 phones sold in the $300 dollar range. example That's going to be atleast 30 dollars in eBay + PayPal fees + shipping so you are looking 320-340 total profit for a 32GB and the risk of getting scammed.

If you sold it on Craigslist then you could still get 300-330 depending on how long you waited so the prices are very similar except you don't get the risk of being scammed.

OP I sold my 16GB 3GS on craigslist for 300 and that over a month ago. Every day more and more phones are getting sold and all the high bidders by now would have already payed the high price for a 3GS, if you can get 280, I would call it a deal at this point.

craigslist is my favorite place to sell stuff.

cash + local pickup = fast transaction with no worries.

I think 3GS prices will drop now, but when I sold it right before iPhone 4 was available I got top $ for it.

The thing you have to keep in mind is A LOT of people that buy on craigslist want to try to resell what they get from you right back on craigslist or ebay. You want to weed those people out. They're not gonna want to pay say $400 to sell for $400. They're out to make a profit.

I don't even respond to the low ball idiots on Craigslist, but every once in a while I'll get a real idiotic offer so usually I'll reply with a smarta** response. They never reply back:)

Seriously though, eBay is your best bet on getting the best price, but you then have scammers and paypal to deal with. Just keep the offer out there, and eventually someone with some sense will respond.

I sold/bought a lot of stuff via Craigslist and I always have people like this. I try to sell it to the person with the best grammar/not a dumbass, but since that is not always the case I have to go with my gut in choosing which person will less likely scam me or give me problems. So far I haven't had any problems, but I'm still very picky on who I buy/sell from. I even had one guy tell me to "**** off don't text me anymore, there is no business between us" just for asking him to get back to me on what firmware the psp go he was selling had (he didn't know since he was at work) and we had friendly convo beforehand. Bad day at work I suppose? I didn't respond back so I don't know what his problem was.

Just deal with it or post somewhere else. And I love how everyone in here acts like they have never "lowballed" anyone in their life. And to the guy who started this thread, check out what other people are selling their phones for. Right now it's definitely a buyers market for the iPhone 3GS and below. Alot of times people think their stuff is worth more than it really is.

I hate selling things on craigs list i remember when i was selling my 16 gig 3gs had it for 280 on there got talked down to 240, so i show up and guy was like so you said 200. As you can imagin i was pretty pissed i just told him 240 or i leave now. lucky for me it was only a few blocks away i meet up to sell it. Now if i had drove far away and he said that and if he stuck with it i would have to have taken 40 for gas money from him out of princeple, and left him with no phone.

I wish people knew how to spell on craigslist... lol

I get a lot of these replies.

"wud u trad 4 uh htc fone?"

One of the common things i see in ads here in Kentucky is "I have a El Camino I want to sale." (Be sure to use your best redneck accent when you read it in your head and you will get it ;) )

Drives me nuts.

I dunno, rudolf. If I asked for 325, people would offer me 175. I agree that 400 is too much. But, that's a hell of a price drop to 220, yanno?

Just have patience. I had a guitar case i put on there and i listed it for $75 and somebody offered me $40. I just said no that i could take less but not that much. Ended up selling it on ebay for $100

There's a lot of scum on Craigslist. It's like shopping at Walmart; there's a lot of crap to weed through, but occasionally it's worth the effort. I sold my last MacBook Pro on Craigslist and had a very pleasant transaction. I did have to reluctantly refuse the generous offers of a few Nigerian princes though.

I would probably consider 280. But 220-225? Nah.

:)

Yeah... I think that's what I got. There are a couple ads from people in my area wanting to buy 3GS used for 220 bucks.

They want to do that, turn around, list it and sell for a hundred bucks more, probably. Seems like a crappy way to make a hundred... so much effort for so little cash.

Just deal with it or post somewhere else. And I love how everyone in here acts like they have never "lowballed" anyone in their life. Actually, I'm a girl. :)

I know what it is worth. It's worth about 300 bucks. I posted it high because I knew I'd get people like the ones I've gotten so far. Something similar happened when I first listed my 3G last year.

And I really never have seriously lowballed anyone. I don't think I'd insult a person by offering them roughly half of what they said they wanted for an item.

I might offer them 3/4 of what they wanted, but that's just negotiation.

;)

Yeah. I may well slap it up on eBay if I don't sell in within the week.

Really, I don't NEED the money. It's more like I'm not running a charity via Craigslist, yanno?

I'd rather just give it to someone that I like that sell it for next to nothing to someone with a complete inability to form a coherent sentence.

;)

Yeah... both the other times I've sold iPhones on Craigslist, I had to continually insist that I did NOT have any interest in allowing a foreign woman living in Virginia on a student visa to send me a money order for 100 dollars more than I asked for the phone so I could then mail it to her husband back in some country I'd never heard of (and I'm wondering if said country existed).

Crazy. People really are crazy. Sad part is that they do this because there are people who will fall for it.

One of the common things i see in ads here in Kentucky is "I have a El Camino I want to sale." (Be sure to use your best redneck accent when you read it in your head and you will get it ;) )

Yeah... they really wanna noun it instead of verb it, eh?

There are plenty of scammers on Craigslist. In fact, I ran into too many the last time I did CL and avoided it for selling my jailbroken and unlocked 3GS for this reason.

I hate selling things on craigs list i remember when i was selling my 16 gig 3gs had it for 280 on there got talked down to 240, so i show up and guy was like so you said 200. One rule when doing Craigslist: Never meet far from where you live.

Ues you can also expect a email or two willing to pay 500 via money or or check and a Currier will pick it up. It's for her sun in Africa for his birthday. I get at least one of these every time I to sell a decent priced item on there. I always say local only. TS ebay as your guide see what they are selling there. expect to knoxk a few bucks below that. and what are other selling on craigslist you higher then what we are selling in my area but Michigan economy sucks. :(

Glad I didn't have this problem. Put mine up for $375 on another forum yesterday and had $340 in my paypal this morning :D It was a 16gb 3GS in White.

I dunno, rudolf. If I asked for 325, people would offer me 175. I agree that 400 is too much. But, that's a hell of a price drop to 220, yanno?

Or you could get the people who are just looking for some one to sell it at the price they are asking.

My roommate is that way. If he sees you overpriced it (especially by that much), he's not even going to bother contacting you. He'll go find some one who is asking what he thinks it is actually worth.

Where as the bargain hunters look for overpriced items, hope the perosn has listed for a while and hasn't had any biters, and hope to get them on the, "Hey, at least some one responded.".

So yes, you can get higher offers by asking what you really want (if you are reasonable about what it is actually worth).

You peeps are getting $300 for your 16GB 3GS's? Ouch. I sold mine to O2 recycle for something like £180.... Sheesh, I should have sold on eBay.

Luckily because of the ease of use with craigslist I'll always prefer it to sell stuff on it. And like someone mentioned, it isn't too hard to ignore the lowball emails. Just delete them.
