"'Almost every influencer will be hopping on Threads"

As if we needed any more reasons to avoid it than we have already.

Meta. Influencers. Nuff said.

I just made mine private, logged out of the app, and deleted the “Threads” app.

I’ve never had a Facebook account, but I’ve had a IG account for a decade+

My IG account just shows a small icon with my membership number, nothing else realistically changed 😑 + nobody can cyber-squat on my profile name easily 😬

…still sneaky-scummy move though

Except that Instagram isn't some "legacy" product. It has over a billion users and is generally well-liked.

The fact that Threads is adding over a million users each hour shows that it was the right move.
I feel it’s disingenuous by meta and Zuck to claim new signs-up per whatever to celebrate some victory, it should technically be linked accounts not new accounts as one needs an Instagram account to even use threads and cannot sign-up without Instagram. What this can do is increase Instagram account sign-up for those interested in checking out threads and once figure it’s half-baked either will be discouraged to delete said Instagram account or just become abandoned and meta and Zuck still claims some bs stats to boost stock market interest.

Seems like and scam and scummy move but that is Zuck and Co., for you all.

Uh, can you make a separate Instagram account since the article implies it does not integrate into the Instagram feed; you could later kill the Threads and Instagram account.

Yeah, that’s a “solution”, but not really. 🤷‍♂

Most people would just want to keep one or the other and kill what they’re not using.

Like I said, it makes sense if you want to discourage people who signed up from leaving, which is their main goal, but ideally you’d be able to delete them independently of the other.

Opening a new account just so I can kill one isn’t a good model for me. But it’s just my view.

#1 rule to follow. Never trust Meta. You know good and well what they are doing to you.

Consider yourself blessed if you get to read this…because the mods always take it down…

THIS ARTICLE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH APPLE AND HAS NO BUSINESS BEING POSTED.

STOP IT, MAC RUMORS. WE TRUST YOU TO NOT WASTE OUR TIME AND STAY FOCUSED ON APPLE RELATED NEWS AND RUMORS.

This site covers a wide variety of tech topics and has an alternative and communities section. You’ve been here years and should know this.

Very clever!!! They know they have a very popular app with Instagram and people are not going to walkaway from Instagram anytime soon. Link Threads to Instagram and you'll never really see users numbers going down.
Or… IG users will not try Threads because they don’t want to delete their accounts if they end up wanting to delete Threads. Dumb. Seems an annoying approach - which is so Meta. No thanks.

Probably one of many reasons why this App is not launching in the EU.

So far I do not like it at all, because:

  1. Your feed has no structure and order (in short: it is a mess)
  2. You cannot select categories you are interested in (travel, jokes, entertainment, tech, et al) - it seems to simply pull data from your instagram profile and based on this it assumes you may like post A or B
  3. No "My Feed" section like seriously, I cannot even see what my followers have posted or talking about. I just see random posts about random topics by strangers!
Also does not seem very engaging so far for both sides:

Users: "Why should I comment on this random persons post, seems almost invasive and the post will be gone from my feed the next time I refresh the page anyway (no longevity)"
Influencer: "Why should I make this post if I cannot target or control who gets to see it?"
4. It's linked to Instagram.

It will remain on Meta’s servers whether you delete the posts manually, or delete your Threads and Instagram account.

Only use Meta apps if you’re okay with them always having your data.
Isn't this the same as your Instagram posts? Obviously if you want to test out Threads, probably best to just set up a burner Instagram account to see if you like what you see.

..but perhaps should. It's plain wrong for a company to be able to hold onto data about you that you don't want them to hold, unless there are very good overriding reasons. GDPR isn't perfect, but it's way better than nothing.

This is truly scummy behaviour from Meta. But let's be honest, folks, did anyone really expect anything different?
Nope. I expected no different. If it comes out of Zucks mouth, or from his PR / Ad camp, it's a lie. Whether they tell the truth about anything ever again or not, they have been caught in lies too many times. Worse, they don't seem to care one little bit.

Who are Instragram's competitors? Tik Tok? Would be fun to see Elon/Twitter buy one out or roll their own just to mess with Zuck/FB.

Maybe you should just delete your Instagram account. And your Facebook and WhatsApp.

META needs to die.
Impossible. WhatsApp is the de-facto standard everywhere, except for the US. If you delete WhatsApp you're effectively cut off from everyone. Same with Instagram, good luck getting a date without it.

Exactly. WhatsApp is the default messaging app in Europe so it would be impossible to stop using it unless everybody did all at once. It’s been used for well over a decade and is as ingrained in our daily lives as doing a Google search is.

People who don't like twitter but choose this suckerberg scam instead are choosing pest over cholera... Like anything he does I would stay away from automatically. If there are legal issues with it on top of that in the EU then it shows the guy just cannot make any money without stealing data or braking some privacy laws.
