Good point. There are so many places where my iPad is on E with AT&T. I look over at my Verizon iPhone, rock solid 3G.

When version says '3G is more areas than AT&T' that is a TRUE STATEMENT.

I get sick of these AT&T advertisements of largest 4G network. They're so full of it, so many rural areas are stuck on EDGE.

Only money AT&T gets from me is $30 unlimited iPad data plan!

they'll take care of that for you before long....I had unlimited on my air card for 6 years, and rarely went over 5gb. went over this month and they cancelled my unlimited. now I have to get one of their tiered plans...yay not.

So AT&T cancelled your unlimited air card data plan? Can they do that? How much did you use?

There's been lots of discussions here about $30 iPad data plans and heavy use. So far I am unaware of AT&T forcing someone to swap plans, involuntarily, to a tierd plan with iPad. Might have to do with its a pre-paid plans.

Here in Hawaii, AT&T has no LTE coverage while Verizon has about 1/2 of Oahu covered already. Of course, AT&T just announced that it will light up LTE on "all of the Hawaiian islands" by the end of 2012. Unfortunately I just don't trust AT&T when it comes to network deployment, and when I went to the store I was told it would be rolled out slowly, area by area. AT&T also has poor signal penetration into the building I work in.

Time to try Verizon out, it seems. I'll miss the HSPA+ burst speeds, but LTE and Facetime over 3G will win the day for me.

I plan to preorder the Verizon phone, then call Verizon and port my number once I've received and activated the new phone. AT&T can have my ETF as a consolation prize.

Nice call...AT&T launched 7 new markets launched today and 47 new markets to launch by the end of 2012.

True, and while this is slower than Verizon both companies plan to be completed by the end of 2013. This year Verizon has gone full steam ahead. Next year AT&T will have to in order to meet the deadline.

I'm staying with AT&T since I can fall back on a better 3G network (in my area) when I'm not getting, or turn off, LTE coverage. I know Apple waited until battery consumption became more reasonable but we're still not sure just how good it will be. All of my friends with LTE phones complain of horrible battery life. Granted, we'll have better components and more efficient OS but I'd rather not take the chance right now.

Both have good speeds just Verizon has better coverage. Of any speed test on Verizon's LTE network the slowest I've ever got was around 10 mbs, best being around 60 mbs.

However hpsa+ is no slouch and even and ATT iPhone 4 on hspa gets better speeds then my Verizon 4S. I doubt I'd switch from one to the other.

Please stop trying to convince people that Edge (2G) gets the job done. That's a joke.

No, it's not. I use EDGE during my work week probably 75% of the time. It works just fine for e-mail, web searches, my Bloomberg updates (stocks, etc) and many of the other day-to-day things I do. Sure I won't be streaming YouTube or anything but it gets the job done just fine.

Different strokes for different folks I guess. If you enjoy paying a LOT more for that "4G" or "LTE" indicator go right ahead...

As for Verizon vs. AT&T I already said Verizon was well ahead on LTE deployment. You are attacking an argument(s) I did not make.

Edge is "acceptable" for tasks that require no data at all. Sending/receiving email takes no data, or checking weather or stocks. But the second you even attempt to send/receive attachments, reload your Facebook, ect., you are going to be waiting forever.

Latency is far longer too than 3G, so you are waiting longer for the "transaction" to even begin, let alone it will be slower.

AT&T's "peak" real world speeds with 2G are like 20-25 kiloBYTES a second.

You'll be waiting 6 minutes to download that 8 megabyte song that you can't even stream because Edge is so slow.

Verizon has a few markets up that they don't even advertise. Lubbock Tx just went live and Plainview TX been live for little bit. Crazy cause the population there is only little over 22,000. Getting 20+ download speeds:) can't wait for my new iPhone!

I guess they can...I got the original plan 6 years ago. Before 3G was even a thought, to me anyways. Just got 3G around the house last year, and drive a truck now, so I go thru lots of 3G markets. I watched a few football games last year and the superbowl. I never paid attention to my data, because I didn't need to. Obviously I used 8.9GB for the superbowl, and about 6-7 on average.

A few weeks ago, I was at 5.5GB, and they cut off my internet and sent an email explaining why. Said we could get a new tiered plan and it would be re-activated. So, we called and tried to figure out what was going on. They said you went over 5GB and it was cancelled. And why wasn't this a problem until today. Them:"I don't know, but there is nothing we can do about it."

So my mom(I'm 28, but have plan with her because of employee discount) calls and talks to this woman, and she sees we have the unlimited plan and re-activated it. 1 week and 1GB later it was back off with the same email. Mom called back to talk to the same woman, she wasn't there(how convenient). So she tried talking to the other people in that department and was getting no where. It was unlimited, but they canceled those plans, and sent letter supposedly(but we never got one, and my mom has every bill and all other paperwork on file for years, but somehow mysteriously this one she overlooked). So she finally talked to the head guy in that department, and he basically said, we could take the tiered plan, or we could do without.

So we took it, he gave us a $3o credit to our account, and gave me 1GB for the remainder of the month(about 10 days). I called 2 days ago and changed to their shared data plan, with the same data for $10 less a month. Already $20 less than what we were paying for unlimited. While we were talking, the woman mentioned tethering, or using my phone as a hotspot...guess what. I am trying it tonight for the first time, and it seems to work pretty well...Looks like we may save another $20, and just do away with the air card all together.
