I remember when this site was 95% Mac rumours. There'd be a thousand posts in threads speculating about the possibility of an upgrade from a 1.5GHz G4 to a 1.67GHz G4 in the PowerBook.

Super mega boring.

Things are more fun and interesting now.

Meh... if it was all about the next MacBook update then people would be screaming because there was no iPod or iPhone coverage.

You can't please all of the people all of the time. Truth is, you can't please anybody these days. People are b*tching over a single dead pixel, a crooked key, etc. They want to install their friend's MacBook Leopard disk on their iBook and are pissed because it won't work. They share iWork with their buddies and think nothing of it. Their brother spills a Coke on their MacBook Pro and they are appalled that Apple won't replace their machine... after all it wasn't their fault. They squawk because Snow Leopard is going to cost money. And after all, they bought their MacBook last year, so why can't they get a free iPod too? OSX doesn't work like Windows. I can buy a PC with better specs for cheaper so Apple is cheating me. So on an so forth.

So is it any wonder that people complain about the MR site too? The mods are too heavy handed... or they aren't strict enough. The site layout and color scheme is bland and needs a makeover. Not all of the vBulletin features are active. The Marketplace rules are unfair. Blah, blah, blah and the beat goes on.

Just for the record...

I like my Mac and have never had a problem with any of my Macs since 1987
I am glad OSX doesn't work like Windows
I puked on my MacBook Pro and had my keyboard replaced without demanding it be covered under Apple Care
I bought iWork '09
Time Machine restored my system flawlessly when I needed it
I ignore the iPhone Forum in the Spy

And I <3 MacRumors just the way it is

It's really hard for me to understand this complaint whenever I see it. The iPhone IS a Mac.

I've got no problem with iPod and iPhone stories on page 1, but I do get a bit tired of Zune/Pre/Sony/Microsoft news; I can go to engadget for that ;)

In summary I'd prefer Apple news to be on page 1, and Apple related news on page 2.

Other (not Mac related) forums I hang out at with a similarly high volume of posts -- and that are running the same vBulletin software -- have implemented a feature where users can include/exclude the forums they get posts from when they hit the "New Posts" link.

It really makes for a cleaner interface when the people that don't care about (for example) industry news or music discussions don't have to wade through all of the posts to do with those topics.

If a Mod wants to PM me, I can share specific examples.

Yes, we have that feature. Head to User CP --> Edit Options. In the "Thread Display Options" section, the last field ("Exclude Forums") allows you to enter ID numbers for forums you'd like to exclude from New Posts searches.

Thanks, I overlooked that expecting to see an alpha list of forum names. But this works too.

How to find Mac info? (Two different issues)

May I ask what content MR has missed covering that you felt was helpful?

Based on several posts like this, I guess I need to be more explicit. First, MR is my main site, so how would I know what I might be missing? (Don't forget, I was asking for some additional, alternative sites.)

The second problem is that the Mac content is so overwhelmed by iPhone etc. information that it can take a while to locate any other content. (The bottom of the page has a summary of past items, but the the scroll bar seems to be the only way to sift through the current items.)

And as far as WWDC goes, I've had this issue for quite a while before the current flood of stuff from this "iPhone only" event, but this undoubtedly what pushed me to post of this.

Basically, it is getting to the point where there needs to be some way to improve the navigation of the full range of material that this site covers.

(And as long as I'm engaging in wish fulfillment, I'd also suggest a separate section for "Rumored Photos of Rumored Products," which could also include "Rumored Photos of Rumored Boxes for Rumored Products.")

As opposed to...?

Oh yeah, stories about point upgrades in the iPhone operating system are so much more interesting, along with reviews of Aps that are primarily notable because they are so silly.

Lets face it, everyone thinks minor information about a product they don't use is "Super mega boring."

The 1.5 to 1.67 GHz upgrade I would be more interested in than "Palm Pre Roundup: Public Launch Tomorrow, iTunes 8.2 Syncing" or "Possibly Leaked Images of Next iPhone? And Other Sketchy Rumors"

Wow, really! A new iPhone!?!? :D

I like the variety, all of one thing gets to be monotonous. It's like TV. If you don't like it, don't look.

Can't you just ignore the iPhone forums?

No. I get my daily dose of MacRumors through the RSS feed and it doesn't discriminate between Mac and iPhone. This morning (Australian time zone) there were five new articles and every damn one was about the iPhone.

Everything was active until iPhone OS 3.0 today. I have all those forums ignored in Forum Spy.

Forum Spy is dead right now. I'm lucky to get 25 posts in Forum Spy for 10 minutes.

I'm sorry but this is a ridiculous complaint. Perhaps even stemming from jealously that you don't have an iPhone and are therefore not interested in news/rumors relating to it.

It is not like MacRumors ignores Mac "computer" news to post things about the iPhone. The iPhone adds more content to the site, which thus provides more content to a VARIETY of readers, not just you.

If something doesn't interest you, don't read it. And if you want to avoid iPhone related content altogether, don't use forum spy and learn to read the headlines on page one and move on if its iPhone related.

What a bunch of babies. "Whaaaa there was a story about the iPhone and I want a Mac Rumor." Arn please make up a Mac Rumor and post it on the front page right now to appease these people.

I'm going to write to the New York Times and complain because there is content I'm not interested in. It doesn't make sense. And don't say, "its called Mac Rumors"--its a damn name, the sight obviously has to evolve with Apple, its not constrained to only "Mac" computers because of it's name.

This is like the people on Engadget or Gizmodo that complain about too many Apple posts inside the comment section of an Apple post. Its pretty juvenile and self-centered.

Arn, how about giving iPhone news its own RSS feed? Those of us uninterested could simply decline to subscribe.

I present the eleven most recent RSS headlines under the heading "Mac News and Rumors" (overdone capitalisation included):

And your point being? :D

A new iPhone OS was released Wednesday, and a new iPhone today. Seems to me that's where the latest news is. No Mac news in the last 72 hours or so.

When SL is released, we'll hear nothing but griping about how there's a lack of iPhone news.

And there's always an undercurrent of "no new Mini" threads.

means that Macrumors is on top of things because its been lots of iPhone news in the pat few days to report on.

The iPhone is a mini-Mac. Don't knock it. Also take note of the State of the Nation title for WWDC 2009 compared to last years... ;)
