Why?

Sorry everyone is being so mean... :/

At least he posted it in the right area on the forum, cut the kid some slack people!

Why is mediocrity acceptable? What's wrong with expecting proper spelling, grammar and punctuation? Aren't these basic skills?

Well SB, I've been using/ building PC's since before you were thought of. I'm ancient by your standards, 60. I switched in January 08, bought a BMB, and jumped in. Very impressed, small learning curve, but totally awesome experience. Just think of the simpliest way to do things and that's the way it works on a Mac. My wife fell in love too, and awaits the release of the new MB .
If I can do this, you most certainly can:cool: Just do it, and let me know how you make out.

oh cool yah so this was the help i was looking for thanks alot:D

Woah woah woah... I have a better and much cheaper option...

I build PCs too, and have recently bought a Macbook pro (Which I absolutey love btw). My PC was (My brothers now) a C2D e6750, 2GB RAM, 8800GT, 2 Raptors in RAID 0. Before my Mac, I lived with a "hackintosh". Theres an entire community out there of people who tries to (And suceeds) install OSX with full functionality on a PC. All you have to do is get some modified files floating around http://www.insanelymac.com, buy a retail OSX cd, and install it.

Its just a suggestion, I'm probably gonna get flak for suggesting it, but for me, it was a really good way of testing out OSX before buying a Mac.

i see what your saying i know about hackintosh and a friend of mine has one but its more of the fact that i needed a laptop so i though hey i might as well hit 2 birds with one stone and get a laptop and also get used to osX adn i dont want to go thrugh all the trouble with the hackingtosh the software problems

There used to be reasons to switch from Windows to Mac OS X but now these have all virtually evaporated. Many of the reasons that remain are also far outweighed by the overpricing which Apple engages in.

You can get a much better machine from Dell for the same money as you might spend on a Mac. Do you really think it is worth the hassle learning a new OS?

If you're into Windows, by a business class HP. DELL is garbage. I had two Latitudes [D820/D830], and the keys popped off, one had a failed drive, and the other started getting screen problems.

As for the Inspiron; if you think the Macbooks are cheap, go to BB and look at one of those...Hi Shine, black plastic that is no stronger than the MB. Is it cheaper? Sure...it's running Vista Home edition.

I've used Windows Vista extensively and I have to say I cannot find any real faults with it. Sure, to begin with there were some pieces of software I used which needed an update, but the same was true when I moved to Leopard on my Mac.

I really don't see why it gets the criticism which it does, especially here.

I used to BETA test all of MS OS's; from Windows NT 3.51 thru Vista. I think Vista is an ok OS, but it's definitely not worth the $$. Especially when you throw in the idea of having to pay more for added functionality. They would have been better suited to make one version of Vista, and one price, rather than Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Enterprise, Ultimate.

Since switching to OSX, I've had nothing but a positive experience. That wasn't true for Vista...

If your in a hunt for a laptop, you cant go wrong with a Macbook. Nice refurb ones for under 1000 on apples website. You could even get a used powerbook on ebay and it would probably suit you well to, all though buying from apple directly is the better cosmetic and safer option.

I think you want to get your feet wet with the mac os, and that your already in the hunt for a laptop, Macbook is a fantastic consumer laptop that will serve you wonderfully. With a macbook you get the fast intel processor, OSX Leopard, iLife Suit, the ability to run windows, that "cool" factor you were looking for, as well as a high quality notebook computer that will do basically anything you throw at it.

If you have the funds, go for it? Worse comes to worse Apple has good resale value and you can just sell it and make back the difference.

Hello helpful mac community I joined recently. I am 15 years old and was born with a pc in my hands, I have been using a pc my intire life I build pc's and I can probably fix alot of stuff. My recent pc that I have which I built has served me extreamly well, its a gaming pc I am a pretty big pc gamer which is the only reason thats holding me back. I know your all going to tell me to install windows on it if i want to game yada yada yada but the thing is i am not because im not tottaly switching to mac. Im still going to use my pc for gaming if i am going to get anything mac its most likely a macbook. I dont have the room for a imac and dont have the money for a mbp the only thing is I have never used the os i have mess a around with it a little at my local apple store there pretty fun probably the main reson i want to get it is because of ilife and photobooth which I am going crazy over its effects lol. I realy dont know if i am going to like the os after I get it I dont know much about it and how to use it so thats really whats holding me back besides money wise. I like apple and love ipods my favorite thing in the world so i was just wondering lol tell me what you think.
Its because i have just wanted a mac i wanted something cool something nice something apple. Its because of that apple store that i moved near to in staten island mall. I wanted a mac because vista gives me nightmares =(

im going to use ilife mostly and does iwork come with it or no?
Ah. That's better. You have a couple of choices. Firstly, do you have the keyboard/mouse/screen/webcam to use with a mini? Are you willing to share your PCs keyboard/mouse/screen? If not then, for those with only a little money, a used MacBook would be the way to go. Refurb from Apple starts at $849. You could pick up a Core Duo (2 year old model) for about $500-$600 from eBay. The other alternative, since you are a technical kind of guy, is to hackintosh your PC. Buy a copy of Leopard from Apple and then follow the instructions at www.insanelymac.com. Check out to see if your mobo/graphics card is compatible first, though and you will be breaking Apple's license agreement by doing that (i.e. no support). The downside is you will have to buy iLife separately ($79). iWork doesn't come with any Mac.

Good luck and thanks for the edit.

The referb thing is really starting to get me. I usually buy all of my stuff new. I just like the brand new unboxing felling (call me wierd) lol. Its just because i like new things is the only reason why i have not looked at refurb but now i am considering it though the new comes with a free printer you buy a priinter and get $100 mail in rebate which seems nice. I dont want a mini because i am going to need a new monitor the keyboard and mouse are no big and another desk (sighs) so i guess no mini for me. The Hackintosh well i supposes but i dont want to screw anything up. Its because i needed a laptop and instead of getting a pc i was going to get a mac and be part of the whole mac experience thing and how it is better than vista.
