Thanks for the explanation, cassidy. I tried it out and I didn't seem to accumulate any page-outs after playing the game for 5-10 minutes. I did get a ton of page-in's, however. Does that mean anything? My frame rates are still hovering in the 20's =/ I don't mind coughing up some money for extra ram (patriot ddr2 667 1gb sticks are only $44~ on newegg after rebate now), although I'm wondering if that would actually help.

If you're not getting pageouts, I wouldn't think more RAM would help. Since our machines are the same except for RAM, I can't really explain the performance you're seeing. As I said, I have the settings maxed and still get better fps than you do, which doesn't make sense.

(only WoW now and still awaiting SC3)

SC3?? Wow, you're gonna be waiting a long time! The rest of us would be happy with SC2! ;)

macbook pro core 2 duo crashes in war3

Hi all,

Warcraft 3 also crashes for me, while playing custom maps like dota, the sound would just go bad and my framerate will drop from 120ish to 20. Then soon after that it just crashes and I loose my network connections. I can't even surf the web with safari, I have to restart the computer. It does it in both native or rosetta. Of course it works fine in boot camp. This is very frustrating and has only happened after the universal patch. I think there is something seriously wrong with the sound in this game.

warcraft III disc won't mount

Hey all,

I can't get Warcraft III to mount on my MacBook Pro. I used to have it installed as I migrated it from my old PowerBook - and it ran perfectly well on my MacBook Pro. But I wanted to install Frozen Throne - so, as per directions, I went to uninstall my original installation so I could load both the original game and the expansion before applying the update...

Only problem now is that the original game disc won't mount. I borrowed a friend's copy and it won't mount either. Both discs mount successfully on my friend's machine. Interestingly, the Frozen Throne disc will mount on my machine.

Any thoughts?

Is there a way to make Windowed mode bigger?

I'd like to run in Windowed mode on my 30" screen so I can access other stuff while playing, but it makes a 640x480 window or some other tiny thing. It isn't resizable like the WoW window is.

does anyone know how to solve this issue? I, like bombcar, want to run War3 in a window, but larger than the 640 resolution it is in in windowed mode. Can't seem to resize the window, nor can you change its resolution in the game.

My friend is having some issues playing Warcraft III on his MacBook Pro. I know there were the issues with Intel macs and Warcraft III but he can't even get into the game to update the patch. He tried to download the patch on their website but the file seems to only open in Excel. Does anybody know any explanations or anything on how to get the game to work? Thank you.

The patch file is mirrored here in case they would like to try another download:

This is word for word the exact same problem I have, including the network problems afterwards.

Will there ever be a solution or is this it?

Ah, I as well. Though it happens in any online game; it need not be DOTA or some other custom game. Also, my game doesn't "crash"; it merely begins to lag horribly, lacks sound, and eventually causes my network connection to drop. As per the others, my network connection can only be restored by restarting the computer or by re-establishing connection through the System Preferences.

Please somebody acknowledge this issue and make a fix! I simply do not play this game anymore, as the problem is extremely frustrating, and my win ratio has dropped to an annoyingly low number. Though, I would like to resume playing...

Are you playing on wireless at the time of lagging and lost net connectivity?

On some systems we have seen this behavior when overheating of the CPU was a factor - it would cause thermal throttling where the CPU slows itself down, then some traffic from the wireless chip would be lost, and the hardware driver would get confused leading to a loss of connectivity.

Not sure if this is what is happening in your case; an interesting test if you are on wireless would be to shut off wireless networking and play by ethernet, and see how that affects the situation. Also, if you suspect overheating is a factor, you could download SMCFanControl2 and use it to pump up the system fan speeds during gameplay, also an interesting experiment.

Thanks for the informed suggestions, rbarris! I appreciate the help. I will try these things later and report to you my results.

This would also be good news for me if My WC3 was working. I just bought a Macbook Pro last week (First mac ever), cost me alot of money and I cant even play WC3 on it. After I installed it, I start it up and the screen goes black and nothing happens.
I updated the DivX like blizzard said still didnt work.
Somebody help me be on the same pages as you guys? I need my daily dose of WC3.

Oh by the way, what short cut buttons do you push to force quit on the mac? (First time mac user)

have you patched to 1.21?
Hold on the Power-Button for a few second the the mac will restart.
Or hold Apple-Key + Option + Esc opens a list with all running programms. I try it with my wc3 tft it works. WC3 quits when i press Apple-Key + Option(Alt) + Esc.
or surf to this website its a collection of mac shortcuts http://www.danrodney.com/mac/index.html

Thanks guys for the heads up.
But this does not solve my initial problem. I still can't play WC3. I'm a big dota fan and it kills me I can't play. I sold my PC and my mac is my only option. I just need this one game on my computer and I'm satisfied.

Anyway, I installed Windows XP using Bootcamp and this time, ROC works! but once I install FT, it won't open and gives me an error message saying something about, "memory can not be read".

I've tried nearly everything and I'm just desperate for some solution now.
Please someone help!

I dont think a Mem Test will help. And I haven't patched it up to 1.21 yet but should it matter?

I thought the game is suppose to work before you even patch it up, so you can patch it when you connect to Battlenet. But I cant even start up the game yet.

any other suggestions?

If you use HFSX+ (case sensetive filesystem) you need to make a HFS+ image and install into that because blizzard looks for filenames with other "cases" than the real name the files has.

HFS+ is default thought so if you haven't change anything that should be fine.

In that case all you need to do is install ROC, not update anything, install TFT, and then go to:
http://www.blizzard.com/support/?id=mwr0744p#universal

And get the universal 1.21 patch for mac, install that and you should be good to go.

I´m having troubles aswell. I have to force quit every time. Any idea what´s going on? And my MPB SD goes from 2000rpm on both fans (@ desktop) to 6000rpm x2. Seems a bit too much of a workload for such an old program, or?

Thank you.

I figured out what my problem was. Apparently my quicktime was out of date and I had no idea you needed Quicktime to play the game. Since I was a PC user I didn't even have Quicktime installed on my old com. Any how, did the update and everything is working perfectly. Now my Macbook Pro has become the best laptop I have ever owned.

Cheers.

So I'm trying to update my WC3 installation to Universalness. But every time I launch the patcher (or, indeed, WC3 itself) the app accidentally quits before it gets a chance to bounce once. The crashlog reads thus:

So is there anything I can do here?

I notice that you're using ROC patcher, have you TFT installed as well? Patching a ROC/TFT install with the ROC patch could be something to do with it

Have you tried the latest 1.21b standalone patcher?

minimum FPS for TfT is mid80's running everything maxed, that is 100v100v100v100 lan
seen it over 130 in lower loads. Boot's very quickly!

WOW on the other hand, everything maxed, lucky to get 15FPS when questing.

Computer specs in my sig.

Only gripe is that WC3 and WOW dont release ram after quiting, WOW is terrible for that.

Cheers.
