Version?

Does this patch only work for RoC? On my Applications list on "about this mac" it states that RoC is universal and TFT is still PowerPC. If this is correct will it be patched as well? I have actually found a bug when running TFT:

When I have been on a game that requires a sizeable amount of memory (or when I have played for a while, I can't really tell) and I exit the game (as in, the actual game engine) the system just freezes and I have to Command-Option-Escape to get back to OS X.

Other than that I think it's amazing that you guys port your games in-studio. You set a really good example that I hope other will follow. Taa.

So, weird problem.

I have a Mac Pro, which had never frozen before. Now, three times my Mac Pro has frozen while sitting in the channel for a while in WC3 since the UB patch. It completely locks up, and force quit doesn't work. Once the screen went black, but usually it just freezes. I also noticed that it makes my fans spin up a lot, and they instantly spin down if i quit or even window the program. When my computer freezes this way, if I restart and boot into WC3, it will freeze again within about a minute.

So, between the freezes, the fans, and refreezing rapidly if repeated right away, it appears that some bug in the new patch makes my video card overheat! Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Try deleting any preference file WC3 has in the library.

Does console.app report anything?

i have the same problem on my intel macbook, though specifically the problem happens for me when i use CMD-Q to quit. screen locks up, and the fans keep running until i force quite. interestingly, once locked up, usually CMD-OPT-esc immediately causes WC TFT to quit, rather than bringing up a program list for me to actually force-quit. any fix to this?

Dumb question

This is probably a dumb question...

I just got my very first Mac at home (24" iMac -- whee!) and would love to run WC3 natively. I bought WC3 when it first came out. Do the original CDs include the OS X version so I can play it natively, or do I need to buy it again?

I'd check my game box to see, but it's at home and I'm at work, and if it doesn't have the OS X version then I want to go ahead and order one to be overnighted for the weekend. :)

Thanks.

You can download an OS X installer from Blizzard's site, along with this patch. That is what I did on my TWO FOOTER.

Nearly all of Blizzard's products have both Windows and Mac versions on the same disc. Too bad more companies aren't like that.

I have a strange problem with wc3, whenever i play a funmap my game sort of locks up for a second, but i still can move the mouse, but a player gets disconnected.
This happens in every game. In some funmaps it takes longer but it also happens.
I've reinstalled the game, deleted all plist files.
The problem does not occur on my Powerbook.
The problem does not occur under Windows Vista on the same mac :(
I own a Intel CD iMac 2GHz and 1 GB RAM
Any ideas?

Yes, otherwise that wouldn't be possible I think ;)
That problem does occur a lot in Line Tower Wars maps
4 people drop in the first 10 minutes or something like that

edit: I should also mention that sometimes people get kicked while I'm in the game creation part and wait for people to join
I get a lag and they 1 gets alwys kicked

Ive got the same problems as icestyle. Also sometimes i just randomly lag out even though internet is fine and working.

Ranked

Blizzard recently reset the ladder, so my friend and I played 2v2s last night and we got up to being ranked 16 with only a 8/4 record :)

Here's proof, although we're now down to 22:

Oh yeah, and we played on a CD MacBook and C2D iMac :D

Is there a way to make Windowed mode bigger?

I'd like to run in Windowed mode on my 30" screen so I can access other stuff while playing, but it makes a 640x480 window or some other tiny thing. It isn't resizable like the WoW window is.

im curious on the response to the question of how you install when the disc was a older version :/

warcraft 3 ROC file structure

autoplay.exe
autorun.inf
directx/
install.exe
movies/
setup.mpq
war3.mpq
war3.ico
trailers/
support/

so what am i suppost to install with, hard to install frozen throne if you cant get ROC to install

I just installed the WC3 and TFT on my 2.0 ghz Core Duo Macbook with 1.25gb ram, and all I get at medium settings with a bunch of the extra effects turned off (@ 1280x800x32) is like 22-24 fps. This is on a 1v1 map in the very beginning of the game! Am I doing something wrong? I only have about 5 gigs free left on my hdd, could that be a problem? Also, would bumping up my ram to 2 gigs help? It seems that for a game this old, I should be able to run it pretty smoothly even with integrated graphics...

I don't know... but those fps are too low. I get ~30 in 5v5 DOTA on my 2 Ghz core duo macbook with 2 GB RAM. I also have a lot more free HD space than you, but I don't think that should much matter. Maybe it's the RAM... do you have any pageouts after playing?

This is a pretty good summary. Basically, "To free RAM for other applications and processing, data is copied from RAM to a swap file. This is known as a page-out."

When I had 1 GB RAM and war3 was not intel native, I would get tens of thousands of pageouts each time I played on my macbook. The result was fairly choppy performance at times. Now that I have 2 GB and the game doesn't need Rosetta, I get 0 pageouts. Check activity monitor after you play and see if you have any. If you do, then more RAM would help performance.

Thanks for the explanation, cassidy. I tried it out and I didn't seem to accumulate any page-outs after playing the game for 5-10 minutes. I did get a ton of page-in's, however. Does that mean anything? My frame rates are still hovering in the 20's =/ I don't mind coughing up some money for extra ram (patriot ddr2 667 1gb sticks are only $44~ on newegg after rebate now), although I'm wondering if that would actually help.

I also don't play War III anymore (only WoW now and still awaiting SC3), but I also want to thank Blizzard for being one of the best Mac-friendly companies out there. Certainly among cross-platform operations, they are the best.
